Well it is cheap for 1, and easy to use, so you might as well use it.

But on a $10/$20 object, having 1 part cost 10% to 5% of the cost when it could be done for 0.5% cost, it becomes expensive.

Updated the schematic in post 11. I'll update this thread with my results, as I start this.

Well, it worked. It worked really well. from 0-4.2V. Thanks for the recommendations. I was expecting a few bumps in the road but it worked great. Now to build it.

    NOT-1.6mA
    Resistors-0.2mA.

    I think...

give or take... Can the analog input supply that? What's the limit?

Ok, I plan on having this ready to test really soon, don't make too much fun, I've never done one of these before. It was fun... at first...

    .

Yippee, now as soon as I get my volume knob all set, I'll finally get my new console in.

If you are planning to etch this yourself using the laser toner, iron, etcher solution I would make all those traces much much bigger. You have lots of left over room, no reason not to make the traces as large as possible so if the toner doesnt stick to one part it will still have at least 6mil that did stick out of the 25-40 or so.

Of course if you are getting it fabbed somewhere, then nevermind!

I was going to make one myself, just to do it, but I figured that surely I'd mess up my first attempts, so I was also going to have one done. I think with a little bit of time and patience, I can get things a little less hectic in there. I'll give it another go this weekend. I wasn't sure about even sending a .010" trace between the .100" spaced pads... It was a good experience, I'm sure I can get it more evenly and openly spaced next time. I think the big rookie mistake I made was not giving the components enough room to start with, so I had to keep shifting the geometry and placement. Maybe I'll do one where all of the traces are at least .015" for DIY etching as well.

I used 0.167" holes for the screws, is that about right for 6-32's?

I gave it a second go before sending the files off, hopefully I've found all of the mistakes, I think it's a big improvement. I got it to fit a smaller area, with better, more uniform spacing. I think asthetically it's a lot better; easier to follow.

To give an example, the holes on the beta digital encoder board are 4.5mm diameter so 0.177"
