Got mine today, It lights up, and I'm excited! No documentation though, not even a hint. Oh, and the old drivers don't work either... The little LEDs light up so bright that you can't actually see when you look at them.

Ok, I have drivers and they loaded! Now what

Easiest quick and dirty test method is to use hyperterminal to talk to the com port.

You can do things like:

"D:NN:S" where NN is the two digit digital output 0-index based channel, and S is 0 or 1 for on or off. So "D:00:1" is turn on channel 0. and "D:23:0" is turn off channel 23.
"A?" and "a?" report back the analogue values
"*IDN?" reports back its info, the serial numbers are scrambled for the betas

Nevermind! I didn't have it plugged into a power supply, it seemed to be working from just USB. Hooked it up to +12 and it's talking back!!

Time to see if it works, please keep us updated when MDX works with this

Actually none of the connection settings matter except the port number. You need to change it to the port specified in Device Manager, then click connect.

Also if you unplug the device without disconnecting you will brick hyperterminal. You then need to disconnect and close and unplug the device. Then open hyperterminal try and connect, it will fail, then close, then plug in the device, then try to reconnect again. Make sure the port stays the same.

This is a stupid hyperterminal problem. You can use any com port software though.

It uses a converter to shoot the USB across up to 200 feet of cat5 to the converter on the other side. I used to use a device similar to this at work to keep computers out of a warehouse freezer, albeit the device we were using had a 4 port hub built in.

Will it need any special drivers in linux or will it just identify itself as one of the USB-Serial devices the kernel has "built-in drivers" for?

I edited my post. Now I'm wrong again. I thought it didn't work without a power supply connected, but now it's talking with only USB connected. What are the power supply requirement specs on this?
