    FB4 to mute headunit

Did a search here and on google, and couldn't find what I was looking for, Putting a new setup in my present vehicle, the computer is going to be used basically for navigation, traffic, weather etc, and my present headunit, a pioneer unit for music, would like to use FB to mute the headunit thru the phone wire which just completes a ground, when the nav. speaks directions. Garmin Mobile PC. I thing I can use a input from the speaker to the FB and have it trigger a relay to ground the phone wire on the headunit. but not very good with programing, so kinda of lost on that, or am am lost all the way around with my idea. Any help or ideas would be great.

Grounding the phone wire is easy. Connect it straight to the minus side of a FB output. When you turn the output on and off, it will ground that wire.

Getting the output to turn on and off however will not be easy. Using the speaker into an input would require a filter of some kind and some sort of cap integrator to know when it is speaking. This will introduce lag time as well as this cap charges to make sure it is voice and not just noise. So you might miss the beginning part and that would be annoying.

It is probably best to have a software control that detects when there is output to the speakers, and then flip the FB output.
