*NEW* USB Input/Output Board -- Fusion Brain

anyone know what voltage the digital input/outputs ports accept on a V4 board? not quite sure how to deal with them.

The Digital Output ports give out the same voltage as what is supplied. So if you power it with a 12v system, you get 12v out at roughly 400mA to 500mA.

The Analogue Inputs (Can be used for digital too) can accept a maximum of 5v and a minimum of 0v.

so lets say i want to create and indicator that displays if my headlights are on....i connect the POS 12 to a (one) digital input port?
also im trying to hook up my "radio detector" to my ride runner. I was thinking of running cables from the LEDs that come on when a signal is detected to the fusion brain and make it trigger a skin saying "kA band detected" etc.... just a tough.


on a side note...
i showed the board to my electrical engineering professor today... he was quite fascinated and said "i need one of them little gadgets!"... he was asking about sampling rate and A/D conversion accuracy ...i pointed him to your website...

If you have a Version 4, then you dont have any digital inputs. But what is digital? Its an analogue value that is usually at one of two values. Therefore, you can use the analogue inputs to measure on/off values. Best of both worlds.

If it was a digital input on Version 3, then anything between 0v and 0.7-0.8v is considered a 0. Anything between 4.2-4.3 and 5v, is considered a 1. Anything inbetween is undetermined, and can have random values.

Also dont connect anything that outputs more than 5v. So your 12v signal needs to be divided and hopefully isolated, then connect it to an input.

The LED indicators will work well. Those values shouldnt be too large, but again always use your multimeter before the magic electronics smoke escape.

The sampling rate is actually quite high, but most of it is thrown away. We used a methodology of the PC gets data when it asks for it. Resolution is 10bit.

i just dont really follow the benefits. any late model car has climate control, and works off a temp guage already. you will never make a pc setup thats as easy to use or as nearly reliable as an OEM system... im trying really hard to see the benefits of controlling your hvac with the carpc i just cant grasp the idea

Actually I have a Mazda RX8, and I had to eliminate my ashtray gaugues and move them to the top so I could place my HVAC controls. My car is very difficult, the controls go through the radio! They connect to the radio, so if I could figure out how it works I could benefit from one of these, but I don't know jack... here is a few pics of my setup

I have the stock radio behind my 8" touchscreen.. Notice how I have the 3 gaugues (boost, a/f and fuel pressure) on the top part where I wanted to put a 2nd screen. If I could move these gauges back where my HVAC controls are now I could then put a 2nd screen!
