I really think this is a problem with your board. I can't duplicate it on this end. We will see though, if other people have the same troubles.

Eventually, yes. Right now, no, unless you have access to a 40 pin programmer.

Very weird. I have not had this problem, and as far as I know neither has Tim, so I am fairly certain it is not a software problem. As Tim said, our manufacturer must have been smoking some crack or something when they did a couple boards... I cant tell because I am red green colour blind, but apparently, some leds are green, and some are yellow, and some are red. So god only knows whatelse they f'ed up.

    A couple troubleshooting questions:

1.) Does ouput #8 work fine with ouput #7 off?
2.) Do you see any solder bridges between out #7 and out #8 on your board? They were hand-soldered, so there very well might be mistakes unfortuneatly. We will have a harshly worded email with our manufacturer if this is the case.
3.) Does it just not work at all, or does it go on and then off?

Yeah this is a strange problem... What length cable are you using? This seems like a magical "fix" sort of at least on my end. I used a 6' cable and all was well and a 12' and it kept happening. Like Tim said, hard to diagnose. It doesn't seem to make any sense. We checked the physical temperature, and it seemed within the specs. Also the software communicates through the dll, and the dll only transmits if the device is a-ok. So the dll and the software seem to be doing fine. Proof being once it reconnects, no crashes and it starts going right where it left off.

This should not be the case. It should stay in suspended animation sort of. Like whatever was on, stays on, and whatever was off, stays off. Once yours disconnects, do your outputs all go to off?

When the program closes all the outputs go to off. And when the program is restarted, they all go back to default. Soon the program will detect going into standby/hibernate and set to all off. And then upon resume go to defualt.

is this not what you had in mind?

Seems like for once Vista is not the culprit. ... unfortuneatly. But hence the beta period.

    1. Yes, it works fine while #7 is off
    2. No, It appears clean to me
    3. It will work normally while #7 is off but #7 is almost like a switch when it goes on #8 turns off and will remain that way until #7 turns off again. If #8 is off and #7 turns on #8 will stay off.

What I did to test the computer being shut off was simple, I just unplugged the USB cable. When I did this the ones that were on stayed on, the ones with animations stopped animating; passed in whatever state they were in (on/off), the ones that were set to default on but were off then i disconnected the USB stayed off... The idea I had was when there is no connection the the computer but there was power that the DO's would be in there default state.

is this not what you had in mind?
What I had in mind was a to go into default when there is no communication with the program... however, in writing this I think what you have plus what I had in mind would be nice to chose between in settings.

I think I found the problem here. I'm letting it run for a while to check.

This will happen for now. If you shutdown the computer normally, the fusion software will shut down, and on its way out, will set all the outputs to zero. try it.

Eventually, the PIC will sense USB, too.... but there was less than a week for me to write the firmware

Vista could be a problem, I remember reading somewhere on the microchip forums that Vista and the CNC firmware didn't like eachother. Unfortunately microchip.com is down for maintenance at the moment, so I can't confirm what I heard..

Is there a 220nF cap on pin 18 (vUSB)? This is required for stability of the internal 3.3vUSB regulator, and could be the possible reason for the random restarts if missing? Other than that, do you have the WDT enabled? If so, try calling CLRWDT moreoften, see if that helps?
