Wow this thing kinda came out of left field on me, I somehow had no idea something other than the velleman or phidgets stuff was being made. But with shock aside, since relay boards will be a separate add-on, any estimate on cost for those? Or will they be a construct on your own type thing, with general guidelines provided.
It will work with any relays. The connections are standard 0.1" spaced headers, such as headers found on motherboards for the front panel or USB connectors.
That being said, we will sell relays already with the header connector on them so it is a simple plug it in and be done type product. For those who want to solder there own connections and such, it can be done, but of course our prices will be very fair and competitive.
The digital output channels put out 300mA of current at 12v each which is enough to drive most relays.
The desicion to make the relays modular were for a few reasons. First being you can locate the relays themselves close to the device you want to control. Thus reducing the amount of high guauge wire that you need to route to where the board is to none instead of looping a bunch of power wires to the board and then back to their respective devices. This cuts down on your cost, noise interference, and just makes it look tidier!
Another reason is because the relays themselves are large in comparison to the board. The board measures under 3"x3" and each relay is 10% of the overal boards size! So to include 12 relays. the board would become pretty big. It would become too big to shove into a small enclosure. The device makes very little heat, which should be ventilated of course but any enclosure fit for a computer, is fit for the board.
And the last reason I'll give you is because we have the support for animation output from the digital outs, so instead of the relay, you could connect quite a few LED's and flash them as you want. If the relays were on the board this could not be done.

Iv been working on the StreetDeck digimod/addin and Iv gone just about as far as I can without having the hardware and software to test it.
