Hi putput, thanks, I did try that but No, no floppy in BIOS is not the resolution for me.

I'm curious that there are so many user's of garmin now and no one has reported it being slow, so I can alone assume it has to do with either my hardware or GMPC...mmm

I'm thinking about buying Garmin Mobile PC (GMPC), and have a few questions:

    1) Does Garmin GMPC come with MapSource and/or any unlocked maps?
    2) Would I be able to use GMPC with maps from other Garmin devices?
    3) Would I be able to use GMPC with maps from other non-Garmin devices (e.g., Magellan)?
    4) Can GMPC use an external PND as a USB tethered (or Bluetooth) GPS receiver?
    5) Can GMPC use the old GPS 18 USB as the GPS receiver?

Oops, new user here so I can't edit my above post until it finally appears . . .
    5) Can GMPC be configured to support live traffic?

My GMPC came with North America maps

I think so. I have a Royaltek Sapphire that is pretty old and works like a champ with GMPC. It connects via USB and a serial to USB driver. Even works through the GPS sharing via RoadRunner to share the connection.

Sorry, don't know the answers to the other stuff.

I will add here that I haven't experienced it loading slowly on my Intel Little Valley. It runs okay but isn't super fast. It does keep up with position, though.

I have noticed that the odometer reading on GMPC vs. the odometer reading on my car dash are quite different. GMPC shows the trip as quite a bit longer than it actually is. On a 300 mile trip the other day, it was off by about 40 miles. Has anyone else noticed this?

So what else can I try to resolve slow startup & performance of GMPC?

    Besides dumping it

To spare anyone else from making the same mistake I did... I purchased Garmin Mobile PC packaged with the GPS 20x (USB) receiver. When the software is purchased with the hardware, the software can only use THAT piece of hardware.

I am running Road Runner, and it has a lot of neat functions that are GPS-enabled. But, you need a separate GPS stream of data to get those to work.

The current solutions of "splitting" the GPS signal (Xport, Garmin's own Spanner, etc) do not work with this combination. The software will see any of the "split" signals as regular old COM port devices, not as it's own super-secret special hardware, and will NOT function.

So in short, if you are running RR, want Garmin Mobile PC and other GPS-enabled funtions within RR to work, do NOT purchase the software/hardware bundle.

The route I am will be taking is return both, get the software-only version of GMPC, and go with a separate GPS receiver (BU-353 comes to mind). Then, conventional methods of splitting the signal should work, and since GMPC software-only is not tied to a piece of hardware, it should have no problem with any of those streams.

And if anyone has first-hand knowledge of this actually working with the GPS 20x USB receiver bundle, feel free to correct me and if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction that would be great. I have wasted days searching, downloading trial software and configuring attempting to get this to work. Finally emailed Garmin's Customer Support and the official word is no dice.

I just purchased the software only and for some strange reason I can't register the software. I enter the reg code when prompted and I get "Can't connect to Garmin server" ?? Do I need to be connected to the internet to reg. the product code ?
