yeah as soon as RRvoice comes out for Win7, that will also mean garmin is gone for 6 months. stupid. im guessing jebus wont get it out for another few months though, and by then it will be spring which should bring new versions of iguidance and such.
once i install win7 again though and put garmin on it, ill likely email garmin support and tell them if they cant activate my win7 install for my software i paid for then they will lose a customer for life, period.
now is a really good time for me to ghost my install i guess, just in case i have some sort of failure ill have a fighting chance of keeping my $65 software.
I wonder what Garmin's tech support people would suggest, if you would contact them before reformatting your hard drive, asking them how to proceed.
I just recently bought a new tablet convertible, but luckily at the moment I use GMPC GPS10x, so I can install on as many PCs as I wish, so this was not an issue for me. However, I do miss the ability to use any GPS receiver with my GMPC.

Perhaps they would be more helpful but it is difficult to predict when your hard drive will crash, so it's not completely avoidable, nor do I think making customers jump through hoops to reactivate a legal product that they have paid for is good policy.
I can only conclude from their past actions that they wish to sell you both their proprietary software and their proprietary hardware. They seem to enthusiastically support the combination while being less than helpful when supporting a mixed combo of their software and other gps hardware.
Since they fail to mention that they are less than enthusiastic about the latter combination, I pin the fault back on them. I apologize for not buying their proprietary gps hardware and daring to tarnish their sort of cool software by refusing to purchase something I already own.
I can only vow not to make the same mistake again with any of their stuff.
I just did the product key reset dance with Garmin. Again. First time 3 months ago, they reset it as "a courtesy" and said they wouldn't do it again for 6 more months. Well, after recently upgrading to Win7 and re-installing GMPC, I get the 'already registered' message. I explained the circumstances and tried to get them to reset it again but they wouldn't budge. Actually, they were downright rude to me and basically accused me of trying to steal their software. I asked them to point out in their EULA where it says that I have to wait 6 months to use the software that I purchased a license for, but they couldn't, because it doesn't say that.
I'm going to try going through their tech support, rather than their 'customer reps', and tell them that their software is not working right and messed up my PC. I'm thinking that any 'fix' they suggest would involve a re-install and then they would have to reset my key.
If they're going to accuse me of stealing their software, then I have no problem with lying to them to get it working.
i agree, any tactics you need to use to get garmin to reset the key is fair game.
when i called, the guy was rude too at first.. i had to explain to him why this is bull**** and politely ask him if things were going to change, and even then all he wanted to do was get me off the phone.
what we really need to do is stop calling them and start writing irate emails to corporate. i know it may sound lame, but emails are written and dont go away like phone calls do. emails get passed up the ladder if you specifically state for them to. ill likely write mine sometime this week, because even if it is in the "software agreement" like the guy told me, its completely wrong to have a clause like that in there. when people buy something, its expected that they can use it.
Has anyone raised the concern with the BBB? If people write and send emails or letters as was stated in the last post...and they are CC'd to Garmin Support, the executives, the BBB and Attorney General's office for offering a product people purchase which they cannot use should the system require a change - yet have the legal right to....it may get the attention that Garmin doesn't want and things will change.
It's only when their wallet is threatened that things will change. If their corporate office has someone that actually DOESN'T have their head up their a$$ then it will get noticed.
Here's some info for those that want to start some hell via an email/letter chain....

Maybe when board members see the potential of their company losing profit due to someone's half-a$$ed idea of a "license agreement" it will get discussed at a meeting.
^^^ great idea!
