I'm drawing a blank here
hmm... I agree the program was poorly written in certain facets, but lets face it. The company is mostly in the business of handhelds, where there is no reason for it to be opened in the background... minimized... or moved off screen. But this does not negate its possibility as a good GPS program.
garmin is in military business and aircrft navigation, thatts where thgeir money are coming from =)
I'm wondering whats actual % brakedown from mil projects vs civil =)
a few things i noticed. dwm_text.exe does not work unless i have aero running. moving gmpc off the screen seems to work fine on my system. also it doesn't seem to matter for me whether or not gmpc has focus or not. it works as long as i don't minimize the gmpc window. it also doesn't like it when i move the gmpc window. this might be a problem since gmpc likes to reposition itself onscreen when changing to certain screens.
i'm running windows 7 x64. in the screenshot below i dragged the gmpc window as far off the screen as i could. you can just see the top edge of the window at the bottom of the screen.
kudos to everyone contributing to this. it looks like you guys are really on to something here! :peace:
This is awesome work! I think the biggest benefit would be to get rid of those obnoxiously large buttons and window boarders it has. Garmin didn't add an OSK b/c they claim it was meant for a laptop...yet the graphical interface is suited perfectly for a touchscreen environment with those mega-buttons.
Make the buttons semi-transparent and more of an overlay like on iGuidance and give Garmin more screen space to display it's cartoon style maps would be a big improvement. Of course...the ability to not do registry hacks to use a different voice would be nice too (I currently use Scansoft Jennifer - sounds MUCH better than the default voice).
@kuo: It uses the DWM (Digital Window Manager) which is the hardware acceleration feature of vista/win7. That being an aero feature means that yes it requires aero.
I didn't actually get just the map...I got the entire application and cropped it down to the center.
It will work offscreen with my method (thats the whole point), my comment was regarding doing it that way on windows xp which uses a different capture method.
my developer is betetr w/ XP so i ask him to try to figure this thingie out for XP use...
I just need 1 day or so as we just release Navmii plugin for CF (which was not in our schedule) so geting delayed w. all planed reserch
