Hmmm. I did not have to unlock mine. The version I downloaded was not locked to a specific device. It was a simple matter of extracting the file I needed and adding to the GMPC folder. My SW did not reset and need re-registration either.

    I must have been lucky.

As far as windows 8 support I have been busy so I have not been able to work further on getting Microsoft Anna to Windows 8 but it is still something I will look into.

This is awesome, I really didn't want to give up my GMPC, still my favorite GPS package. Thanks for posting your results.

The only way a downloaded Map file will work Unlocked is if the Map file had already been patched (unlocked). With Win8 the problem for spoken street names is not so much the Voice files but the TTS engine in Win 8.

    Here is my latest Update.

My plan of attack for this was to either import the Microsoft Anna speech files from one of my Windows 7 machine to one of the windows 8 ones or somehow rename one of the existing voices in Windows 8 to Microsoft Anna as I would not give up on being told it just would not work.

After countless hours of playing around with my registry I realized it would be easier to rename one of the voices than to try to import Microsoft Anna from Windows 7 to 8.

Anyway long and short of it all I am able to get windows 8 to see a new voice profile as well as speak sentences and also GMPC to recognize my duplicate of Microsoft Zira that I renamed as Microsoft Anna on my test mule.

It is now 1 AM my time so I am unwilling to go outside and make the same configuration changes to the registry in my CarPC to test at this moment but I'll be testing it out sometime tomorrow or so if I have the time.

Great, renaming the REG entry was something I was going to try on the odd chance that Garmin did something stupid and did not search for the default installed Voice, unbelievable to think that this is what they have done.

Here are screenshots of my progress so far.
As you can see Microsoft Anna is now listed in GMPC on my test machine which is running the 32 bit version of windows 8.
My CarPC is running the 64-bit so there may or may not be slight differences when I try to get it to work there.
By the way I did run a simulation in GMPC and yes it is speaking the full street names with the Microsoft Zira voice that is standard in Windows 8 but recognized as Anna.

I exported the registry keys to a thumb drive and the appropriate files that I renamed. I have tested on 3 machines (2 laptops a 1 desktop) running the 32-bit version of Windows 8. In all cases it works flawlessly. My CarPC however is running the 64-bit version of windows 8 as I wanted to take full advantage of the 8GB of RAM my CarPC mobo supports. Unfortunately copying the registry keys over and the files somehow does not work with GMPC even though the renamed voice does show up and works in text-to-speech settings in my control panel.
Haven't had the time to bring the CarPC indoors so my work is limited to the few minutes i spend outside in the Minnesota cold.

So I finally figured it out and got the voice with street names (Microsoft Anna) working with the 64 bit version of windows.
It turns out that all 64 Bit versions of windows has a second control panel of speech for x86 programs. Hence a second registry entry of them. After making the appropriate changes I now have the voice working for both x86 and 64 bit software on my CarPC.

I really have nothing to add to this thread except good job. I always liked GMPC and it has been collecting dust on my shelf for some time.
