Exactly Mickz I have both licenced versions, It makes me wonder why companies don't pick up the signals from consumers and continue the program development especially since they already have the code and just need to modify every once in a while. I see it with so many software companies. I think I have PhilG fixed up. Hope your feeling better Mickz! SNO

Thank you very much to all 3 of you.

I didn't realize my disdain for Garmin support was so prevalent with others.

SNO has helped me out immensely.

Mickz, reading what you have explained there, if Garmin truly doesn't give a flying f... about GMPC, they could have offered up a patch to make the software work for those owners that want to continue using it....but they have another plan...

I can hear them in the boardroom now "people love our software, they are hooked! We will wipe GMPC off the planet & they will be forced to buy one of our hardware units which me make so much more money on!!" (lightning strikes, thunder cracks, and everyone around the table laughs with that sinister smile" Ok, I know, I gotta stop watching those B rated thrillers, sorry....

All laughing aside, thanks again, I'm sure I will be up and running soon.

Thanks SNO, it's been a slow road and still not there yet. Another month and I'll know one way or the other how things are going to pan out.

AARGH. I'm just about to reformat the HD in my laptop and was searching for the .70 update for GMPC, good thing I ran into this thread!

... I'll be reinstalling on the same hardware but because I have a touchscreen laptop, I'm debating whether to do Windows 8 or just retain my 7. From what I gather, if I stay with 7 and keep that file, my activation is 'retained.' .. do you know if it works if I bump up the OS? .... thanks!

If you want to use win8, then give it a try. Maybe make a backup image of your setup now and if it doesn't work out just go back to that image. Also there are ways around the problem should it not work out. Give it a try. I will try to help if you need it after you try.Good luck SNO

What he said. There are ways to get your product to work with Win8.

FYI Windows 10 : As expected, spoken street names mod works fine in Windows 10. For those new to this, here again is the one I put together. The file is Voices_32_MsAnna.rex found here ->

Click on the link below, then right click on Voices_32_MsAnna.rex and select Save target as, rename the extension to reg and save it.

    /files/Download/

Import it into the registry (after making a backup of course.) Normally playing around with these entries won't case a failure of the OS, however it may stop the speech engine if you do something wrong. Backup up to be safe.

    Mickz,

.....thanks again for the link. I misplaced my file somewhere. I was about to go hunting for it on mp3car again.
not to change the subject,....ok a little,,,,,
I might snatch up another 8" tab with a bit more on board storage. The one I have don't cut it. Nextbook 8" (NXW8QC16).
Yeah,... this tab only has 16Gig. All that is installed on this tab is RR, Garmin MPC, Winamp, WMP-HC and the prolific drivers for the GPS puck.
All the rest is filled by Windows 8.1 OS (the Bing version) and all windows updates.
Which now leaves me with only, wait for it.............. 1.16 Gigs.??????
I can't even install W10 update. I need at least 5-6 gig of space. Now I see why these 8" tabs were selling so cheap. Not worth the hassle.
I notice that there is a "Recovery Partition" listed in the "Disk Management" that is (3.64Gigs). I wonder if I should delete this to gain more storage so I can install W10.
Or will this screw things up. Maybe when updating to W10 this Recovery Partition is needed too? Don't know, what's your opinion on this Mickz.
Should I delete that partition and dive in blindingly, or move on to a better tab? It's a shame because this tab is excellent in performance and speed for a little atom quad.

    thx.

I think there is a problem with removing the recovery partition. The UEFI boot needs that partition, I don't think it can be resized easily, at least not with the programs I have tried.

An interesting side note: I just finished updating the Surface PRO, NOW the upgrade info I searched for at Microsoft indicates that the Win10 Upgrade also upgrades the recovery partition to Win10. I haven't had a chance to confirm that??????

Does this mean any tablet with uefi partitions will have the recovery partition changed??

On some tablets that partition is only a few hundred megs ???

The Surface Pro on Win10 is fantastic, (far more noticeable ease of use compared to the 8" tablet) Win 10 running on the Surface Pro makes Win8.1 look like a total kludge.

Like I said to many thing going on at the moment for me to devote time to looking at this.

I have 32G on the 8" HP and after removing the Windows.old directory and running a Disk cleanup I appear to have more room than with Win8.1+Bling ??
