Ok, also just noticed that I get the retarded "It is now safe to turn off your computer" message so ACPI is definately screwed up somewhere along the chain...
I just received my new mobo today and am still setting it up. I got everything to work awesome except 1 problem... NO STANDBY!
I am running XP with all the 200+ updates that M$ forced down my throat since my CD is apparently outdated... Not tinyXP, or anything. Full XP Pro.
I used the included CD and loaded all the drivers including the video drivers.
The weird thing is that I am able to go into hibernate, and it works just fine...Now I need standby. Not really want, but need.
I figured it might be in the BIOS, and it very well be because the power options are something I have never come accross before.
There is the option for Suspend where the options are S1, S3, and S1&S3. I have it set to both, although I did try S3 alone with no dice. There is also the option for suspend type STOP GRANT or PwrON Suspend. Those I have never heard of. Never had to deal with them.
I really don't know what to check because all my installs ever have had suspend become an option when the video drivers are loaded, and always when hibernation is available.
This is a brand new board to me, so there might be some magical jumper somewhere that disable ACPI or something, but I have no clue.
And the board is the Commell LV-670M. The RAM is a new stick of 512Mb kingston. I figured I would mention the ram seeing as how I want to suspend to RAM, yet something tells me I would have the option to suspend even with bad RAM, I just would not be successful at doing it...
Anyone, anyone? Bueler, bueler?

they put in the manual that the non-m also supports s3 ith the new bios update, but the new bios update woudlnt' work. when I asked them why, they said it was only valid for the m version.

I looked at Commells website (which seems pretty sparse) at could not find a bios update.
Is there somewhere else to look for it, like maybe just the generic award bios or something? I believe the version I have was middle of 2004... I can't believe that was 3 years ago.![]()

Ok, well I did a complete refresh install this time making sure I had the ACPI setting in the BIOS ok, and voila. Standby.
I think M$ is out to get me... I have activated my copy of XP so many times, I should have my own line at the customer activation number! This is number 3 tonight.
Is it true? No more automerged double posts? Can it really be? I would be so happy!
Damn...at you automerge!

This is funny because I have a LV-671 installed as a kiosk and I just noticed the same thing yesterday.
I HATE AUTOMERGE LOL
