oh, and would the 80w power supply that comes with it replace the p-1900 I origionally intended to get, or would i still need that? :/
Hi guys,
I came accross this on ebay, and think it looks/sounds pretty good:
eBay.co.uk: Complete Mini ITX Car PC/ Carputer 100G HDD 512MB RAM (item 190093604410 end time 15-Apr-07 21:56:30 BST)
If you could have a quick read through and offer up your thoughts it would be great!
I particularly like the rubber shock absorbant grommets/padding, and extra heat expulsion methods. It seems well geared towards carputer use.
I also like the external slot loading dvd drive, which could also go in the centre console with the screen.
A mac-mini has been looking favourite for my setup so far, and i'm looking for something else which would be a better option really. Would this thing be preferable.

I'd contact them and find out what's needed for the 80w PSU. It could be an Opus model, in which case the P1900 wouldn't be necessary. It could be a Trvala (or similar) model that requires a regulated 12v input. In that case, a Carnetix P1290 or 1240 would be the ticket, not hte P1900 as you suggested.
[EDIT]
I read the ad in-depth and it appears it has a built-in regulator. I would think that you would not need a regulator, since their system includes one, as well as a shutdown controller. I'm willing to bet the PSU they supply is an Opus 80w unit.
I'd also like to point out some bull**** on that Ebay ad to you, and anyone else who may be interested. They may very well be reputable, but their Ebay ad has some inaccuracies:
That's a VoomPC case with their logo. Don't kid me....To start with we had our own all aluminum case designed to be easy to mount and dissipate a maximum amount of heat.
So the multitudes of members here that have 3.5" hard drives running in their cars for years are lying? We DO NOT use 3.5" hard drives, because they are designed to be used in desktops and will quickly fail under the shock and vibration that it will be exposed to in a car or other vehicle.
Take those false statements however you choose. As I said, they appear to be reputable as far as I can tell, but I wouldn't buy anything from them just for the falsities in their listing....
thanks tonnes for the reply darque. I really dont know what to do. I can get a core solo mac mini off ebay for about £230, with less delivery fee. I would then need a power supply though, and some of the cables etc, but I imagine a tried and tested mac will be a better option over some custom built thing with no real gaurentees?
The ONLY reservation i now have over mini-macs, is just how well XP runs on them, as mac oibviously arent a traditional purpose built windows machine. I know PC's a lot better.
I do like the external dvd slot drive though.
