    Wireless Capabilities For The Carputer...

Just wondering if anyone has a working wireless(802.11b) link in thier carputer. What hardware are you using? What kind of antenna do you have (if any)? How far away can you connect and whats between access point and car? Just some general questions. Any answers or suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

I have a USB adapter in my truck. I leave it unplugged most of the time. When I need to copy files, or get updates to my mapping software I plug it in to a little hub that I have mounted behind my seat.. I can get to the end of my driveway before I lose my connection, so mine isn't very usefull other than just saving me from running a cable to a normal NIC in the PC.
I am not using any special antena or anything, as I really don't care about distance. And the room where I have the access point is located right above my garage. The only reason I got it in the first place was that it was a close out deal, and I paid $90 for both the access point and the usb adapter. They are both SMC and I am pleased with the quality.

I had an Orinoco USB gold 802.11b adapter in my truck for about 2 weeks (then I sold the truck).

I got REALLY good distance if I put the adapter on the roof, okay distance if it was on the dashboard, and crap-*** distance if it was lower than the windows.
