CarPC v2 - Finalizing hardware - your thoughts please...

So, after toying with my CarPC (v1) for about a year, I've determined that I'm going to need to move on to v2. I screwed up my homework and bought an Opus 150, which put out 5A on 12V (thought it was 6A), and my Shuttle PC's Celeron 2.4GHz CPU alone draws 61W (thought it was closer to 50W). Anyway, after fighting with strange power/video issues for a while, and with the fact that it's taking up space in my wagon's cargo area, I've decided it's time to go more embedded and do the power calc's right this time.

So, I just bought an M10000 board (used for $100), and an M2-ATX (also used for $55). I know that there'll be plenty of power there. Now I'm looking for a case. I want to go underseat with this setup, but have plenty of room in my Impreza. (Just saw a subwoofer box that was 11x12x4.5" with room to spare under there.)

So with an M2, my first thought was a VoomPC/Ampie case. But after losing on a couple auctions for used ones, I really can't justify $75 + s/h for a metal box that doesn't even have room for a CD-ROM.

So I started looking further. I would LIKE to be able to use a 3.5" HDD, but know it may not be possible (and I have a 40GB 2.5" I can use). I'm currently looking hardest at the Morex 2699 case:

This thing should fit fine under my seat, but can put in a slim CD, can fit a 3.5", will take a PCI card (wireless), and have room to spare. I think the M2 should even screw right into place where the un-reg'ed PSU that comes with it sits.

Has anyone else run one of these with similar hardware? Will the M2 be able to power the board, an 802.11B wireless PCI card, slim CD-ROM, and 3.5" 250GB Maxtor? At 160W (84W on 12V), it should, but I'd like to hear from someone else running similar.

Even better, anyone have a Morex 2699 or 2677 lying around that they want to sell? ($90 for a case is more than I've ever paid - even for my huge RAID tower w/ 550W PSU).

Another option I've seen used for sale - its a smaller Morex box, the 2688, with an M-II board, 60GB 2.5" and an M1-ATX for cheap (about what I paid for my board/psu). I assume a M10000 and M1-ATX would be easy enough to sell off if I went this route, right?

AAAh too many options!! I've got a headache... Thanks for listening to my rambling.. Feel free to post up any advice... Thanks!

CarPC v2.5 up and running - all hardware installed, skin configured, and iG tweaked like crazy. Now for OBD-II, and voice control, and camera plugin, and... :nutz: - it never ends!

cheapest route to get a case exactly the way you want is to make it yourself. Some plexiglass, aluminum corners, etc. You could design it to the exact size that you wanted for a lot less price. As for your specs, it sounds like there shouldn't be any problems with what you're running.

If you plan to mount it under the seat... make sure you get/build a really good case. Under there is where all the crumbs and whatnot fall. ...just a thought

^^ +1! I would have gone the mount-everything-on-a-piece-of-wood route if it weren't for that problem right there. I ended up ordering the Morex 2699 the other day, so it should be fine.
