Boot from USB-CDROM...use my laptop drive?

    Hey everyone,

Just a quick question. I've installed my car pc but now want to reboot XP. I don't particularly want to take the PC out in order to get to the IDE port though.

In my mobo's BIOS theres an option to boot from USB CD-ROM which is ideal since I've got a USB port thats easy to get to.

I don't have a USB CD-ROM drive but I was wondering if I could use my laptop's drive and just buy an IDE to USB adapter..?

I can't think why it wouldn't work but thought it best to check here first.

    Andy

(PS, I tried searching before posting this but couldn't find anyone with a similar post)

Yes. All a USB cd rom is just what you say. A JAE50 to USB converter. An external enclosure for it so it wont get damaged as you move it around with the converter built in is around $30 on ebay. The adapters by themsevles are like $20 to $25. So might as well get the enclosure.

    $30 shipping inclusive.

I always quote high too just in case. I got mine for $22 shipped a year ago and it was branded, not no name.
