I read a review on that last week.

Apparantly when you use it as a wand mouse, the batteries die quick.

You would also need to adapter the charger for your car since it doesn't use standard batteries...

I haven't used the new "Ulta," but the old gyro mouse, when it was done completely from the gyro inside, was aquward to use (ie to get the mouse going in the proper directions). We tried to use one at my office in the training room for the instructor to use, but it was too tricky to get complete accuracy with.

I wonder if this gyromouse could be used for inertial dead-reckoning.

Submarines do something similar, keeping track of their position with gyroscopes determining subjective course changes.

Of course, GPS is much easier, but this would be an interesting technical challenge, and could probably be combined with GPS for more accurate results.

OMG - I was thinking the same exact thing. But it would be easier to go to a hobby shop and pick up a couple of piezo gyros that they use in those R/C helicopters. It'd be a great backup for GPS if you go through deep canyons and tunnels alot.
