    onboard audio sucks

    ok so first day with the new setup. it boots amazingly fast now, start up to music, < 25 secs (used to be 1min 45sec). however the onboard audio card may save space, but its a PoS. the sound quality just isn't there and distorts easily. i'm also getting some poping noise but i think thats cause the lcd is grounded through the vga cable to the mobo. sigh...it never ends....

    now i just need to shoehorn a sb live card in there...damnit

    Not sure what board you're using, but I'm very happy with my onboard sound. There are quite a few others who would agree with me. NO doubt that the SBlive is a better card, though so more power to you if you get it wedged in.

    You might consider solving the 'popping' noise first so you don't accidentally fry your SB Live or worse, kill your speakers.

    you can get a great usb sound card that will sound much better, that is what i used. i think xitel is the name.

    What kind of onboard sound is it? More than likely, it is an impedance mismatch or wiring problem.

    its an epox 3wtm board with the ac7? audio card. i fixed the problem, turns out winamp had the eq on and it was distorting everything and the poping noises where from the ground on the lcd
