it's a bit convoluted, but they're all just IDE devices on a firewire bridge... here's how it's basically going to have to fit:

firewirecable -> firewire bridge -> IDE cable (1-device) -> imac DVD convertor board -> imac DVD drive.

And if the firewire bridge has a female connector on it instead of male, just don't use the IDE cable.

I've hooked up a laptop IDE CD-ROM drive to a USB2.0 board with the same method. It worked fine.

Have any of you gotten this to work? I have an internal IDE -> firewire converter (which is just the board) with oxford911 chipset but can't get it to work at all. I've tried just about everything too (firmware upgrade, firmware options, xp & 98se & panther) any help is appreciated..

    thanks

I got this to work with an external drive kit. Not the cheapest route, but I tore apart the external drive case for the board and it worked. As far as chipsets... well you should know me better than to even ask. If you could tell me where to look or what to look for I might be able to tell ya.
