    The Saga Begins...

Well, I am now the proud owner of a VIA Epia 800MHz board and casetronics case. I still need to pick up some memory, and acquire the 12V input adapter. Couple of questions have come up...

I need to add a bootable partition to an existing drive (45Gb with all of my MP3s already on it from Version 1.0) I have never done this before, so I am a little nervous about destroying my catalog (I do have a back up on my new laptop, just in case). Any pointers?

Does the EPIA board support extended desktop? I am possibly considering using both the VGA and S-Vid outputs (just a pipe dream thought based on the Massworks USB Touchscreen)

Apparently, the EPIA board can support Disk on Chip, but Fry's didn't carry that version (of course ) There was something in the manual about contacting VIA directly...

I was playing around with 98Lite, and trying to install the Sleek setup on my old laptop, with an existing Win98 install. Unfortunately, I need some Win95 files. Any ideas where I can find those? I don't have any Win95 CDs handy. Download would be fine... Do I need them for a clean install?

    Re: The Saga Begins...

you dont really need the 95 files.... its only used for the last option "COMPACT/SLEEK" (i forget)... which installs the 95 explorer instead of the 98 one since of a lower overhead.... which is nice if u need it....

if u REALLY want the few win95 files u need im sure I could work something out *WINK, WINK*

If I don't need them for a clean install, I can live without them.

My biggest concern, though, is creating that bootable partition.

    Up

Any pointers on creating the bootable partition? The drive is currently in my wife's Win98 machine, and I am planning on running Win98/98Lite on the Epia.

Umm.... not sure what you mean... but if you have the drive in a machine with another drive that it boots from, you can just format the HD and copy the system files to it in teh format program.. :P This is what I do sometimes... and, while I have the drive in a machine with a CDrom, I copy all teh 98install files to it....

I don't want to reformat the drive, as it already has all of my MP3s on it, I just want to add a partition and make it bootable. But since the drive's primary partition is the one that has all of the MP3s, I am concerned about how the PC will react to it.

Okay.... so, let me get this straight.. :P You have a compiuter in your house with 2 harddrives in it... one has the operating system, etc on it, the other has MP3s. you want to remove the MP3 drive, and use it in your carplayer, but need to install an operating system without losing all the MP3s??? And, would like to have the operating system on a seperate partition to the MP3s, but ATM there is only 1 partition, and, so, you need to creat a new one?? RIGHT?!?!?!?
