    They're not illegal.
I've had no problems with them.
    Besides, my screen is removable.

Just disable your screen, so that they can see it doesn't operate while the vehicle is moving. =P

I know in California you are NOT allowed to operate a screen in view of the driver UNLESS it is for GPS guidance and for music. NO MOVIES. If you are caught watching a movie you can get a ticket. If cop pulls you over just show him that you can only listen to music and nothing else
I had a cop pull me over bc of my window tint ( he thought I had driver and passenger side window tinted when i didn't) anyway, then he saw my screeen and asked me what it was for and I told him it's for playing music... after he figured out i had no tint he just let me go.

Why woudl someone wanna watcha movie while driving anyway!!

hehehe, i see we are back to this topic again. Take it from me. As long as you dont have a movie or some show going on, then you are ok. Take it from me, i have had state, local, rental cops, and more pull behind, beside, etc and they all tried to figure out what they hell it is. Anyway i was only pulled over once when i first had it in there and he let me go cuz it wasn't what he thought it was and the cop was into computer stuff too. One a side note, if you really dont want it to stand out, you should seriously consider tinting the computer screen. I did that for my NEW 7" Active Matrix screen and the old 6.8" TFT screen and boy did that make a diff. Rigth now my car doesn't look like a disco floor at night and inorder for you to really see my screen up above the mirror, you have to be really close to the car. I hope this helps.

BTW, when i went for my 2yr inspection for my car, my screen was directly in the view of the inspectors, not a word mentioned about the screen, they were too bussy trying to figure out why my car kept screwing up their test. I actually fooled their very own computer they used for the test a simple trick and it worked.....

Yeah, as I said, it's not illegal to have a screen.. what is illegal is having a movie displayig screen in view of the driver while the vehicle is moving.. at least here in CA.

But mine doesn't ever play movies. Just GPS and music.

Okay, I forgot to mention. When in the city at night, I just leave my display on. No tint. The brightness is fine with all the city lights.

But when I'm driving on unlit roads (like small highways outside the city), then the brightness from the screen bothers me. And it would even if tinted, I'm pretty sure. So I just turn it off when I'm not using it. There's a convenient power button on the display.

dude, can't you guys just dim your screens? Most screen have a dimmer control for turning it down. I have VGA screen (not NTSC) and I just dim it to match the conditions.

Heres the link to my ride for those interested...

    Sure I can dim it.
But going from 250 to 180 nits doesn't really make much of a difference. =P

The dimmer doesn't get any dimmer than that.
