Check your bios settings, and make sure that the first booting device is your o/s hd.
After some googling and getting many anwers about booting from an external HD wich I don't need, I will post my question here:
When my external USB HD (2,5" Samsung) is connected, the computer freezes often when booting. Where normaly the memcheck is performed it just does nothing anymore. Sometimes removing the power from the PC and putting it back on solves the problem but not always. Also on one occation after about 10 minutes suddenly the PC starts. I don't always have this problem but I do have it most of the time. When the disk is not connected, I never have issues. Any Ideas?

This setting is correct. O/S disk is the first and the only boot device.

Looks like a weak 5V rail. I notice you have a couple of hard disks in your system. Consider upgrading to something more than M1-ATX?
All 3 of the Epia boards that I have had did this if you had anything that Windows would load as a disk drive plugged in to USB, either in a hub or straight into MB. It did it for thumb drives. card readers, and USB cd roms. I know this does not fix your problem but the only fix I found was replacing the MB and make sure it is not a Via. Sorry for your troubles.
disable USB Legacy support option in bios, your problems should be solved.

The first thing I will do is disabeling the USB legacy support in the Bios. Seems like the simplest sollution.
If that doesn't work I will try using the 220V home adapter that was with the disk to power it. This should take the load of the 5V rail. If this helps I could fabricate an inverter to power it directly from the car battery.
If these sollutions both don't work I think I have a problem. Don't like the idea that I will have to change my MB...
I will keep you guys updated on what happens. Thanks

Option one: no luck...I don't seem to have an USB legacy support option in my bios so I can't disable it.
This weekend I'm gonna try the second one. Powering the HD externaly.

I have the same problem. If I try to boot with my memory stick in the USB port, it freezes on boot up. I have to plug it in after booting.

Maybe it's because mine uses an A8V-VM motherboard, which, by standards, have those standard bios options, dunno about you epia users hehe
