Is a USB NIC card an option?
I've seen at the local CompUSA's and such really low profile d-links and even Intel has one that's pretty low.
Obviously, the bracket will be of no use to use in either case.
The top of my garage is too dark right now, but I'll try measure one of the Intel's I have tomorrow...
