    Question regarding touch screens

    Hello,

I just have a question to all the touch screen users out there. How is it that you guys are able to use FEs like RR with a touch screen? I mean, for me, this is my 3rd touch screen and I am beginning to hate it because it does not keep its calibrations. I calibrate it and then use it for a few and then try to select something like an hour later and it selects a different area of the screen or when I hibernate and resume, the calibration is all screwy. I have been using RR for a while and got so fed up with the fact that the screen loses its calibration and started using MCE 05 with a remote. Now, I love the fact that I can do all that with a remote but that kinda defeats the purpose of the touch screen cause then I dont even use it anymore.

I would like to go back to RR since it has so many more features that MCE will never have. What are you guys using as touch screens and what drivers? I have the k301 from the mp3car store with the latest drivers from egalax. Any other drivers that I might be able to use or any other solution will be greatly appreciated.

    Gracias

Never had any issues with my touch panel. Cold booted every time (Win 98SE). Panel is a 4 wire resistive 8.4" AMT touch panel, controller is a PenMount 5184 USB controller, drivers are the standard PenMount drivers.

Always found it to be very accurate.

For my cheapo ebay screen It never lost calibration. Then I cracked the TS when i redid my bezel so I bought a replacement overlay through eBay and it worked perfectly for 5 months, but now it starts to wonder a bit after a week. But it takes 3 seconds to click 4pt calibration then the little x's and done. I think it might be the temperature, because this started happening only when out temperatures were 90F in the day, and 40F at night. I think extreme variations are what does it.

But a normal screen should not loose calibration every time.

No, mine loses it every day, after coming out of hibernate or after a cold reboot. Just this morning, I got into my car, started it up, loaded up media center selected my music for the commute to work and there was a song that i didnt like and tried to click on the ffwd and the mouse arrow moved to about 2 in off from where I selected. Its getting frustrating. I wonder if its the drivers. What other drivers should I use besides the k301 that are known to work well. Thanks

If you can calibrate it, then it is not the drivers. If you calibrate it and then it uncalibrates iteself, like yours is doing it is the overlay.

But the best drivers I have found are the touchkit drivers. Free and easy to find.

So you think its the overlay, man, thats 3 screens already with the same problem. The touchkit drivers, are those the same ones from egalax?

Well first off it is a single din screen. They are known to be crap. And second, it is not very hard to replace an overlay. You dont have to buy a whole new screen.

How is the TS connected to the PC? When I finished my build I was getting the same problem because I had the TS usb hooked up to a 4 port hub coming from a 2.0 USB card on my PC. Now, all I do is run a 15' usb extension cord from the USB on the motherboard to the TS. Not sure if the TS didnt like the HUB or the USB card, but my problem is now solved running direct. Try that out and see what you can get.

I have to same thing. I have 4 usb ports on my mobo. 1 of those is going straight to the TS with an extension cable.

Update: As of last night, I lost all TS input. I try to calibrate with the 4 Xs and it allows me to do the first 2 on the bottom of the screen but when I get to the top of it, it will not 'feel' my finger on it. The status bar on the bottom of the screen does not reset, it just keeps moving to the right until it times out. :-(

I guess my overlay is dead... What overlay would you guys recommend?
