Thread: audio interface question

forgot to mention i already have a monster 400 wat sub amp hooked up, so any other larger 4channel amp would be a) too expensive for me and b) take too much power (i would need a capacitor or somthing).

your right, it would probabally be okay. assuming i had the money to pay for a 4 channel amp heh. i was looking for a different solution...

Sorry, I really don't see any other solutions. I have an amp running my highs and mids now that I have gotten rid of my subs and sub amp and I am going to have to plug the computer into the aux in of the amp. That is until I get a new head unit. I haven't l;ooked around much, but I am hoping that the cheapest head unit that has aux in shouldn't be TOO expensive.

i found exactly what i was looking for, short wave fm modulator! it was hard but i found it heh.

I highly recommend against going with an FM modulator. I'm using an FM modulator very much like the one you linked to and it's garbage. I have to crank the computer volume all the way up just to be able to hear it, then there's alot of hiss and a bit of distortion... all around not a good solution. I've had some success playing with different sound cards (old sound cards with built-in amplifiers seem to be best such as the old SB 16 ISA cards), but overall it's not worht the headache. If you plan on buying this, you WILL need ot buy a power filter as well, especially if you are powering your PC using an inverter. Even though I grounded the modulator, inverter and PC to the same ground point, hooking the antenna into the modulator seemed to introduce a ground differential as well, so I also had to add a ground loop isolator.
Take a look at the Aiawa deck at crutchfield. It's only $119 and has an aux-in. This is only $80 more than what you're going to spend on the modulator, and not even that much more when you factor in the $$ on the power filter and ground loop isolator, not to mention the amount of time you'll spend trying different sound cards, etc to get decent sound out of the modulator.

The aiwa only has mini aux inputs

I was hoping for some rca's. I guess I'll keep looking, so far I haven't seen anything for under $250. Let me know if you know of anything cheaper. Thanks
