    Need Advice

Just though you know I did my research, I read almost every page of: Ultimate sound card list, Audio Tuning via software, as well as reading several posts from many searches I did. I also read the FAQ section and still didnt see a clear picture.

My ride and system: Ford Excursion (yeah its a bus)
    VoomPC enclosure w/ M2 ATX
    2GHz via MB 1GB ram
2 Pairs MB Quart QSC 216 comp
    1 Pair MB Quart coax
    Amps & Subs TBD

Havent installed any of it yet.

So my problem is Soundcards and amp advice, as well as whats in between.

I want to get an external Soundcard or DAC, if I get a DAC I cant EQ or get processing (right?) If I go sound card then is the Firewire 410 the way to go or is there a better option thats not super expensive? Dont have any room in the Voom for a PCI card.

Now lets say I got one of the above......do I go from one of those to a unit like the overdrive unit on mobileaudiocontrol.com or do I go to a unit like DQL8 on same site, or straight to amp? Wouldnt I need a pre-amp coming from a Soundcard or DAC? I figure I would at least need the overdrive since its at least a 8 foot run to the amps in back. Would I run SPDIF from PC to amp?

Basically my problem is what I need to do to get from the PC to the amp........SQ is paramount.

My last question for you is what Amps do you recommend for the comps and coax listed. My plan and from what ive been told would be best. Is to run 2 4 channel amps, one amp for the 3 left speakers and one amp for the 3 right. The max RMS range for those speakers is 150 @ 4. Is it true I should run amps rated for the max? I cant find many amps out there that are rated for that except ones over 500 bucks. Just wondering what amps you would run?

Sorry this is so long, I look forward to your opinion.

    Thanks in advance,

first off, if sq is your goal, why two pairs of comps?
i'd set it up with a 4 chan amp for your front speakers and the rear coax's, drop the second set of comps unless you want imaging and tuning issues.

amps, more power is better. get the most power you can afford. 100 wpc is a decent start.

if you get a dac you can eq and process but you cant x-over or eq specific speakers independently.

you don't need a line driver unless your card is putting out low voltage and you have a long run and you can mount that close to the soundcard.

to run spdif from pc to amp you would need a dac in between the two. so it'd go: pc (via spdif)->dac (via rca)->amp

    Thanks Scott, for the reply.

I am (acctually already have all six speakers) doing two pairs of comps and a pair of coax since its a huge vehicle. There is already six speakers in there and I wanted the third row (yes it gets used alot) to have a set so I figured id replace the set back there with comps.

Would the firewire 410 be a better option than DAC? If I go DAC I assume that I would have to buy hardware EQ and Processor?

The reason I thought I would need a line driver is because the PC is in the front center console and the amps would be in the back (remember its a ways back there).

    Thanks again,

hi i read your post and i am also planning on doing carputer. i am interested in knowing a little more about your system. i already have a mobile video system with 4 tvs and an audio video switcher and am trying to see the best and easiest way to integrate my carputer to my existing system. any help will very appreciated. as in amps your best bet is to get best name brand you can afford. listen to a few at a local car audio shop.
