How do you connect a wire from the trunk to the dash?

As you guys can probably tell by my question, I'm very new to wiring cars. For people that have their carputers in the trunk, where do the wires usually travel that connect the computer to the dash?

    Thanks

Hum okay, does anybody have a link to pictures of someone doing this (doesn't have to be on a particular car, any car really)? That would be really helpful.

    Thanks

have a look at RedGTiVR6's install pics here This is a very advanced install but will give you ideas on how to run the wiring properly.

What are you looking to connect to the front? Video, power buttons, etc.?

Yeah well if you put the computer in the trunk then you would need to pass like VGA cables, audio cables, usb cables, exc. I also want to have a cd drive in my dash so I'd need cables for that.

My car has carpet on the bottom, do you have to take this out to put the wires underneath it? Is it like secured to the floor? How is that done?

    Thanks

Don't run under the carpet. Pull off the kick panel from the floor where the door meets the interior carpet. If you pull the carpet back slightly, you'll find the cable bundles the car manufacturer installed. In most cases there will be enough room for more wire. I had to use the driver and passenger side.

Ah, okay thanks man. Yeah a previous poster gave me a link to pictures where the guy had taken up the carpet so I thought that was how most people did it.

Another issue, how do you get wire from the kick panel on the sides to behind the dash, or actually in the trunk? What is the most common way people run it through there?

    Thanks

Try getting on your back with a flashlight before asking people to explain it to you so you have an idea what they're talking about. Best thing to do is run it around the sides of the back seats and then under the plastic panels at the bottoms of the doors, up into the dash and across behind the dash. Or to keep certain wires away from the power wire, you can actually run it up the C pillar and around the edge of the headliner then down the A pillar and behind the dash, I found that easier.

I ran my wires under the carpet.

It went through the opening from the trunk, under the rear seats, then under the carpet, under the gear lever/center console, and into the dash.

Trying to run the VGA cable was a big PITA though. We did it by using a screwdriver to lift the carpet a bit then squeeze the cable in until we got to the other side. It took a lot of time, but probably less time than taking the kick panels off, and we needed less cable because it's a shorter distance to travel.
