    Commell LV-677 or aOpen i945GMt-FA

Which one would you prefer to see in a high end solution?

A few people on here have run the 677. There are no reviews to speak of on this forum and only a few in German.

The aOpen is new so there's not much out on it.

    Give me your thoughts!

Hmmm ... tough call. Since we are using this in a car environment, would the PCI-E x16 slot be useful? I really couldn't imagine what you would use the high end video card for in a touch screen system. The number of mini-PCI slots isn't a factor I believe because I have not seen many devices using mini-PCI. Most of them are just wireless-b and wireless-g adapters. The compact flash on the solder side of the Commell is a nice touch but I wonder if that would impair mounting the board to a base.

I believe AOpen has a great reputation for developing many kinds of electronics including motherboards. Though I don't think they are experienced with Mini-ITX motherboards.

I think I'm on the fence on this issue. Anyone here ever used either board?

Ah the LV-677 you want to know more about it. Let me tell you about it then. First off it boots a bit slow. Has problem with M2-ATX sometimes but that has been fix with a modded M2-ATX. Runs fast, but I still have problem running it on SD. Eventhough it a fast system, SD still has alot of bugs and this system here should be eating it.

Running on a 1.8 ghz CoreDuo processor with 2 gig of DDR2 667 mhz and a ATI X300SE 80gig 2.5 hd with 5400rpm. Currently running RoadRunner with no issue

Pros:support CoreDuo,has a PCI Express Slot, and two slot of Memory, also has LVDS support

That all I can think of good about this board

    Cons: Need alot of tweaking.
The USB header on the board does not fit normal usb plugs. IT has been reverse.
    Slow on booting.
Does not work right with a M2-ATX

The only thing holding me back on the AOpen is the DVI port. I've got a a 1.7GHz CPU, 512MB Ram, waiting for a MB. I would have to use the DVI-VGA adaptor and while it's not that big of a deal I want to wire in plugs that connect to my factory harness and the extra space required for the adaptor may hinder that plan.

Thanks for that Deric. It looks like a great setup to me. I thought about depth issues and it would certainly be an issue in some installs. In my application (Lexus SUV) that prolly. won't be a problem so we lucked out. We're mounting it vertically (DVD ROM up) in the center console.

Has anyone out there used this board (or it's "sister" MP945-D and similar complete systems)?
    Success? Failure? Good, bad ugly?

I'm considering moving on this (or the MP945-D) in the next couple of weeks so anything/everything helps.

Thanks for your time and input!

    Link added.

One thing to remeber is that the i945gmt can only be powered by a carnetix p1900 or p2140 since it has a built in psu.
