And if the alt dies after "the big 3", it will be because it's on the way out anyways, not because of the improvement in the wiring.

But a bad alt will take out a battery. However, it doesn't "kill" the battery, it lets it die. The battery stays in a state of discharge as the alt can't bring it back to full charge, the plates sulfate, and the battery dies a slow and painful death.

Batteries need to be kept in a state of full, or near full, charge to get the full service life out of them.

    Cheers
    thats what i figured

i dont think so, prob just that its rare that the alt needs to be upgraded, you really really need to be using alot of power to require an alt upgrade.

id say that if you do the big three, and your lights still dim, then your prob going to need one soon.

the reason they were dimming before is becuase the alt couldnt feed the amp fast enough through the thin wires it had until it hit the 4 gauge at the batt, so the batt had to do the charging which drops the voltage down form like 14 to 12 so the lights dim, now that there is equal wire gauge from the amp to tbe batt and then the batt to the alt, the amp can just take it from the alt and the batt doesnt get involved, so the lights stay at 14 v.

if the alt wasnt up to snuff, you could add wire all day, and the amp will still have to jump on the batt reserve power because the alt cant give the amp what it needs and so your lights dim again as the voltage drops from the normal 14v to the now batt provided 12v.
    Thanks, the ubernoob
