HEy fellas,
I am broken up between getting a carputer for my Z or a D3 navi system. I Really want Carputer but I really dsont like the booting up time that it takes for it to go o from hibernate to active, I was wondering is there a solution to that? Maybe leaving it in standby when car turns off, during day (going places)and at night when its parked putting it into hibernate. I know you guys know everything about anything so if there is a way could you please tell it to me
Thanks
My boot is way under 45 seconds. Fully loaded XP loads in about 30 if not less. Then again I'm running a 2.0 gHz laptop.
but I was wondering can the carputer be put into stand-by mode , or would that eat too much battery?>
Depends very much on the support of standby on the mobo and many other factors, this is covered in quite a few threads here. try searching for S3 standby.

The boot times bary greatly. I have had 22second cold-boot on a via M10k... Its all in the BIOS config and the windows services. That was also with a full Windows XP Pro install, not stripped at all.
The more RAM you have the longer the hibernation.
Standby is fine, but you will get minimum time because it draws maximum power. I think it is Vista that does the hybrid mode where it is standby until the power goes out and then hibernates or something. So if you get a smart PSU with a fast/expensive system, Vista may be an option.

So S3 will not drain battery if left overnight?
Depending on the battery.
...and the system.
A P4 EE with 4Gb of RAM will drain a Walmart battery within hours of being in standby, and may drain an Optima deep cell battery in a few hours more.
A Via M10k with 512Mb of RAM may drain a Walmart battery overnight, and may drain an Optima battery in a day.
These are by no means real numbers. Just giving you an idea of what it all depends on. And this has been asked too many times to even count.
