IT's just a different motherboard.
You'd probably need to reload windoze and all, but it would work, yeah.
Now, will it mount up correctly in the case? That I couldn't tell youl.
My sx260 died on me, apparently it needs a new motherboard, I found a place to get sx270 motherboards....would it work??
I know the set up in the back is a little different, but i dont mind doing a little mod I just want to know if all the other components will work
Dell will send you a refub MB if your sx260 is less than 5 yrs old and you contact them before 1-31-2008
Not sure if your'e still looking for one of the Dell SX260 MOBO, but I have an entire case and Mobo.
Let me know if you're still looking for one.
Be careful with the SX270 motherboards. They were originally manufuctured during the era of defective capacitor dielectric fluid use. I've seen many with capacitors that bulged and leaked after about three to five years, rendering them inoperative. Dell just replaced one for me even after the 5-yr warranty expired. You might want to check with Dell regarding the sx260 motherboard -- maybe that one had bad capacitors too.
...by the way, your Windows XP hard drive should boot up just fine after the motherboard change. You should go to support.dell.com and download drivers for the sx270 MB chipset, video, and sound; put them on a CD and install them after boot up. Start with a PS2 keybaord and mouse at first (instead of USB ones).
