How old are your spark plug wires?
Fuel pumps shouldn't "tick". If it does, then it sounds like you'll be needing a new pump pretty soon.

ahh, not entirely true... I have worked on a few older cars (late 70's, early 80's - one was a mates Mazda funny enuff!) that did have an audible 'tick' in the fuel pump.... its bloddy anoyying if u ask me tho...

You say you have worked on a friends car before, how did you solve the problem of the ticking???

Sorry, should have been more clear. Modern fuel injection style pump shouldn't tick. Low pressure carb pumps may often make a ticking sound.

sorry... i meant as in oil changes/etc/tuning.... not fixing fuel pumps.... my point was they do 'tick' and like aaron said, more previlent on older carb engines..
