Everex launches $198 Ubuntu Linux gPC at Wal-Mart

Review here. Not too shabby for $198 and no shipping.

I doubt all walmarts will stock this, so the free shipping will depend on if you can find a walmart with this.

I really don't see how linux OS pc would be mainstream enough to sell at walmart?

I do like the idea of the low low power and 6 USB's.

now 4 are on the motherboard itself I assume and 2 on the case?

I bring this up because My only beef with the intel mini ITx is that it only has 2 USB's directly on the board, (but you can plug in two more sets of two)

Yeah, kinda funny. The single review so far complains that your WINDOWS programs won't run natively on it. Duh.

I see they now have a developer board for $59, shipped. It may be worth it for the board alone.

Could you put windows on this? Nothing against ubuntu im just going to be using windows media center for my in car setup,

This is great! you could power the whole PC with a cigarette lighter converter. Its small, strap it in the trunk and off you go.

Not sure, but I don't see why not. For $59, it's worth a try. My nano has a C7 Eden proc and this says it has a C7-D. Not sure what the difference is. Also, I have no idea what size board this is, I am guessing it's a mini-ITX.

I honestly can't believe Wal-Mart even stocks this. Don't get me wrong, I love Linux and use it everyday. As more and more apps go online, pc's like this will become more and more popular. I downloaded the gOS just to play with it and it is actually really nice. It's the kind of OS that you could just stick in front of grandma and have her forwarding 20 thousand emails in no time. Everything is literally RIGHT there. Of course, adding software through synaptic isn't hard, but the way I look at it, if people can't figure out how to use synaptic, they probably can't search the internet and download and install stuff either.

Subscribed! I have to figure out how I can use my Air card with this.

Not sure about gOS, but this may help you for Linux + air cards in general.
