Will mac parts work with carPC

I want to install a slimline dvd drive as my mine drive. I want it to be a lot load, and those are hard to find. I did find a few slot load mac laptop drives on ebay, and I am wondering if those drives will work?

I know that I need an adapter to convert from 50 pin to the 40 pin ide. But is the mac drive any different then the drive in a laptop pc?

Same question here, but will be connecting via USB instead of IDE.

I'm using an Intel Mac Mini, the CD/DVD drive in that is the same form factor as a laptop drive, the laptop drives using a smaller high density connector to a printed circuit board, the circuit board connections to the mainboard via a small ribbon cable..

Have you considered de-casing a portable USB DVD drive, might be easier

unless your carputer is close to where you'll be mounting the slot-load DVD drive, then you should use USB, not PATA (IDE). the PATA specification limits cable length to 18". some people use longer cables and it works fine, others use longer cables and the drives don't work, or malfunction. USB has limits too, but much longer than PATA. the USB specification limits cable length to 5m (~16').

I'm not sure about whether or not a 50-pin to 40-pin adapter would work. I don't think it's worth fudging around with it when there are drives that you know will work with your PC. >>>here<<< is an eBay seller that has a few to choose from.

I've got a G4 slot drive and a G4 tray drive sitting at home already, also have a 50 pin ide to standard ide adapter so will give it a test as soon as I track down the a molex to floppy power adapter.

Not to contradict... but... That length is only stable on USB 2.0 devices, Otherwise don't go past 10... or so they say
