Integrated LAN adapter (LAN Down)
Recent Intel chipsets integrate the Media Access Control (MAC) portion (MAC) of the LAN adapter into the I/O Controller Hub (ICH) of the chipset. The Physical (PHY) portion of the LAN adapter is not integrated, so a separate LAN chip must still be used on the motherboard to support LAN functionality. Additionally, some motherboards use a PCI LAN adapter chip that does not use the integrated MAC portion of the ICH.
Due to the potential variations, drivers from the system or motherboard manufacturer should be used. For technical support information, check with the system or motherboard manufacturer. If you have an Intel® motherboard, support information is available on the support page for the particular motherboard: http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/
