    Ebay Steal

    Hey,

This auction ends in the next two hours.

    It's a VIA Mini-ITX C3 800mhz.
    A Cubid case.
    512 MB RAM
    a CD-ROM I think.
    and a 20GB HDD

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...773492997&rd=1

This is a steal for $255. I paid $237 for the case and mobo shipped.

tack on $60 for the RAM, $40 for the CD-ROM, and $60 for the HDD and that is a $400 box.

I am half tempted to buy this to put with my stereo components in the living room.

I am posting this in case someone hasn't bought their parts for their car computer yet. This thing is perfect for that.

All you need is an LCD, and a remote and you are up and running for less than $400.

I'd like to see a link to that.

Are you sure? A mini-ITX mobo, case, Ram, HDD, and CD-ROM for under $275?

I'd buy them all and sell them on Ebay, becuase the one I linked to is at $330.00 now.

you forgot the cost for the CDROM and like $40+ for shipping because you're ordering from 4 different companies.

But the point remains, it was not a steal. And we're not even certain that the case works well on a car (people have used it, some have fried computer components with it, so...)

    1) You can pick up a fast CD ROM for $20 shipped

    2) The only prices that dont include shipping are the board which is 7.00 from lilli computers and 10 for the case i think

3)This guy is also asking 16.00 shipping, so its pretty even.

You need a laptop CD-ROM, therefore you'll pay more than $20. More likely around $60...

I guess I need to shop around more.

    I built my mini-itx for:

$237, mainboard, case, IDE adapter, shipped from caseoutlet.com
    $ 30, 256 MB RAM, shipped
$ 50, 15GB used HDD shipped (not a great deal)
$ 18, Used laptop CD-ROM shipped (works great, missing front plate)
    ----------
    $325

I could have saved a few bucks if I scrounged around, but what can I say, I'm not that smart of a consumer I guess.

I did get the creative remote from computergeeks.com with the discount code for about $13 shipped. So I was pretty smart there!

Don't go telling me that you found that remote at Bob's Computer Hut.com for $2.50 shipped in a 24k gold tin, either.

    .

I've said it before. Compaq Deskpro Small Form Factors fit really nicely in the trunk of a car, or under a seat.

If you want that black color, just pick up some appropriate spray paint and duct tape and make it black. People mod cases all the time with spray paint.

I don't know why people go out of their way to make the cases so crazy. Plexi-glass visible from the outside? Sounds like a theft trap to me... I just plan to make a small case out of wood and cover it with carpeting the same colour as my trunk, to make it as NOT visible as possible. It's not like I spend a lot of time looking at the case anyway, and I'd rather keep the visibility down as to deter theft. Heck, might even hide it in the spare wheel compartment

Spray paint and duct tape are perfectly good solutions too.
