How to setup my rear cam!

I have a K-90 7 inch motorized screen. It has a wire that connects to the negative wire on the reverse light. When the car is put into reverse it sends a signal to the head unit and monitor switches to the camera view. When I go in drive, it switches back to the PC screen. I have a 15 inch screen on the way, and I know that it will cause issues with my line of sight. So I want to buy a splitter so one can go to the video mode, and the other to A/V1, so if the screen is down I can hit source and see whats going on behind me.

How do I set up the camera itself though? I know in the instructions it says to install it on the 12+V and ground on the back up light. Obviously, I cant set it up that way, so how do I connect the camera? I do have a amp for a 12" subwoofer. Do I connect it to that, if yes, how?

I was thinking of hooking it to the ground of the amp, but were do I connect the 12+V? I dont want the cam to be on all the time. Maybe I should have the cam hooked up to the 12+V power on the PSU? I would just hate to have to run a wire all the way from the PC to the cam.

No one seems to be able to help me...... I was worried about having to run a new cable for the power from the PSU to the rear cam. I have a amp setup and I only use one side of the RCA cables. Can I use the non used side to carry the power for the camera without starting a fire?

well, if you want to look behind the vehicle at any time and not just while reversing, you'll need to run a 12v source to the cam.

this will require you to have a switch installed somewhere so you can turn it on and off or you can wire it to 12v acc and it will be powered on only when the car is running.

I have mine wired to the reverse lights and to a switched 12 v source for pretty much the same reasons you want...............

Well my idea was to use the second RCA cable as a 12V and ground wire. I then would connect one end of the 12V and ground to the PSU and the other to the camera. Im not sure if that is wise though. That way the camera will turn on and off with the PC. I am not fond of having switches all over the place. If I can have the PC turn it on, id like to go that route.

Does your power supply provide for a relay to turn the amps on and off?

If so, just use this wire (or wire in a second relay) to power the camera on and off with
    the car.

Or just power the camera from a 12v Acc source.............

So if I power the camera from the 12V ACC Source, all I have to do is run 1 wire? Then use the ground from my amp, so I dont have to run 2 cables?

Why do you feel you have to go to your amp for a camera?

If you have a model that only requires power and RCA, just run an ACC to the cam and ground the neg wire anywhere to chassis ground.

The RCA just goes to the screen.

I think you may be "overthinking" the install.............

LOL, i just dont explain things correctly sometimes, and yes I do over think, and my wallet is feeling it.

What I meant is, I wanted to run a wire from the 12V+ ACC source, the same one my headunit is connected to, that way the screen and camera come on right away. What i meant by the ground wire on the amp, is that it is very hard to get to a ground point without taking apart the interior, so I simply wanted to use the amp ground point. I just remembered though that I have to pull everything out anyways to run the 12V+ source wire..... Thanx GreatWhite!
