Switching to CRT when resuming from hibernation

New system is pretty much sorted out and installed, two problems left ; XM (which I'll work on a little more) and :

Problem : when resuming from hibernation (S4) the PC boots with the video set for CRT, since its on the LCD in the car cant fix it. Have to pull unit, connect to crt and change it back to twin (LCD primary and CRT secondary) in the driver and reinstall in the vehicle.

I've searched for two days here, many posts, nothing that answers this problem.

    System is as follows :

Sorry, dont have the exact model# of the motherboard yet (hoping MCS gets around to mailing my detailed invoice), the manual I received states:
Intel 945GM Express Chipset & Intel FW82801GBM ICH Chipset Based M/B for socket 479 mobile processor. Possibly IPC ?

    T2300 Core Duo
    2 Gigs Ram

LCD in car : Xenarc 700 IDT

    at 800 x 600 at 60 hz

    Win XP SP 2 Home

(Not that it matters, but CF, IG4, Wi-Fi, all running happily together).

    The Video Driver applet says:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile 6.14.10.4859
It is set under Multiple Display for "Twin" Primay : Notebook Secondary : Monitor
I also note that under "Information" tab in driver in the "Notebook" section it says
    Power Management Support :
    Standby Mode : Not Supported
    Suspend Mode: Not Supported

Notebook and Monitor are the only two choices in the driver drop downs.

The system (and software) boot and run fine when on CRT (hibernate and return from hibernation) and run fine on LCD as long as I dont hibernate.

    Question (s):

Is this likely to be a Windows problem, or a driver problem?

Any info on how to fix would be appreciated.

BTW, just updated driver to version 6.14.10.4906 . . .nothing changed but the driver version number (same problem)

More than likeley a Windows problem

Had same problem with my ATI card on my laptop.

Does the keyboard have a shortcut setting on it? for example mine will cycle through displays using FN+F7 and go through TV, VGA, LCD etc.

Usuallt there is also a setting under your display properties under the advanced tab that might shed some light, in my ATI case there was a display tab, which has buttons on it to control display order, if thats the case makes sure you go into it and set the HTZ correctly otherwise that might cause problems when your LCD kicks in it wont be able to display picture properly

Have a look and see if it solves...

Thanks Jones. Yup, has keyboard shortcuts (CTRL-ALT- F1 for CRT CTRL-ALT F3 for LCD) but they dont fix it because when it resumes the driver has changed to "Single Monitor" (CRT) so the CTRL-ALT F3 does nothing. Would also not like to have to have kybd hooked up and have to use it all the time when resuming in the car.

If I dont find a definitive answer Ill screw around with the freq (htz) but as I said, its trying to run CRT on LCD so I'd rather get that to stop happening before I go in and change the CRT settings.

Oh well, went down today and poof, not booting to LCD in car. Shut off hibernate, full shut down, still no go. No post visible, so dont think its a driver thing.

On the phone with MCS tech support and Jetway tech support for three hours, still no go.

PC boots, hibernates, resumes and runs fine on power brick on desk connected to CRT monitor.

No matter what settig you use in bios (boot display = LCD, LCD+CRT, CRT, Auto) wont show post on Xenarc 700 IDT in car.

Hook Xenarc 700 IDT in car to wifes laptop = displays on Xenarc fine.
Hook carpc to desktop CRT (thru VGA port) or desktop flatpanel LCD (thru dvi) works fine.
Havent tested Xenarc on DVI port (Xenarc has a VGA plug) the adapter I bought to try this has two extra pins on each side of the tab on the DVI side of the adapter, but Im not confident that would work either. When I set bios to Auto and hook up desktop flatpanel to DVI on carpc I dont get a post screen, so I doubt if having the adapter to test the xenarc there is going to help the situation. If you dont see text on post wit a monitor hooked up, its gotta be bios or hardware I guess and bios didnt help.

Had a problem with a jumper on the M3 Atx PSU in the car pc (was wiggleing, like it was too big for the pins it was jumping) took a while to figure why I was having problems setting it to shut down or start up. Got that straightened out after numerous reboots and fiddling with the jumpers.

Wondering if the PSU problem fried something in the MB?

Oh well, Ill talk to the place I bought the carpc from tomorrow, see what they wanna do.

Had everything installed in the car and working for about three hours (CF, IG4, XM,WiFi, everything worked, hibernate and all), so I dont think its a straight compatibility thing (or it wouldnt have worked then), Im leaning towards a bad piece of hardware.

BTW the system is powered from a dedicated 20A fuse tap in the block for the red line, a tapped (windshield wiper) fuse for the white (ignition on) line and grounded to an OEM ground pack on the frame (terminated in a 3/8 ring around the bolt that secures the ground pac to the frame). The monitor gets its power through the carpc case through a barrel adapter. the case has an M3 Atx, probably 160w (waiting for docs from builder) and the MB is a Jetway J9F2 with a T2300 Core Duo).

Will advise any changes on my side.

Appreciate any input from the members on what is likely to be going on.

    Thanks

PC still out at the vendor. In the interim, found a few posts with people having the same problem with not getting any video on start out of the jetway j9f2.

The vendor says he sells about 3000 of these a year, I cant be the only one having this problem :-)

Dont really see a solution in the threads I have found. Some success has been stated with different combinations of the following:

    Updating the MB Bios

    Setting the bios to LCD+CRT

Hacking the screen def file and manualy entering values that make it work

They all make sense to me, but no definitive answer in any of the posts about what will work. Would hate to have to run down each of those paths (wrought with opportunities to break a multitude of stuff that isnt broken now) to an unfruitful conclusion.

This is basicaly a bump for the post to see if by chance anyone who knows the real cause for this problem and has found the solution that works every time may be kind enough to start me down the right path.

    Thanks for your time.

System is out with the vendor, MB abd PSU will be replaced. All I can hope for is that it was bad hardware.
Will post on receiving the system.

System came back from vendor, motherboard was replaced.

First boot = hooked up to power brick and connected to xenarc monitor in car. Booted fine, displayed fine, all looked well.

Disconnected power brick, hooked up all connections in car, started car = no display (white screen) :-( !!!

Oh well, grab a crt display, connect to system in car (not shut down, left running) = Desktop with the 945 driver app open saying "windows can not activate twin display until second monitor connected" Hmmmm?

Disconnect crt, connect xenarc = displaying fine now ??:-)

Been through a bunch of start / shutdown cycles, over two days, all working fine now?

Damned if I know what the issue was, but, its working now.

I would like to point a finger at the 945 video driver but when it was failing to display it was failing from the get go. No post screen either, that doesnt sound like a driver issue.

But the driver was open when i hooked the crt up, and just reconnecting the lcd seemed to correct the situation, for now.

Ill be back if it rears its head again, Thx all.

Alrighty then, happening on a regular basis again

About half the time, it shuts down (hibernates) fine and wakes up fine with no video problems. The other half of the time, we're back to the "white screen" as soon as it hits the post.

One thing I did find out was that all I have to do is disconnect the vga cable from the backplane after it boots into windows/centrafuse, then reconnect it (sometimes a few times), and I get video again. So at least Im not dead in the water when it happens out on the road, just frustrated getting out of the car and going around back to get it done.

I take it this is a defect in the design of the MB (when I get the "white screen on boot up, I dont even see the post screen, so while the driver may be also problematic, somethings not "kosher" in the way the board wakes up).

    Really annoying.

The vendor didnt replace the psu when it went in, and subsequent to a discussion sent me a new one. Ill swap that out and see if it's some spike in the start up of the power to the display or on the MB that the new one will alleviate.

SO I guess Im the only one having this problem huh?
