    13 Pin DIN Connector

OK I pulled my head unit out and it has a 13 Pin DIN Connector which from what I can tell has the speaker outputs, cd input (ill be ditching the CD player for a monitor) CD Power, and maybe more...

I can't find a wiring diagram for it but are all 13 pin DIN's the same? I saw a 13 Pin DIN->RCA adapter for kenwood... might work?

I haven't pulled out my car computer (like the one that controls everything) yet..... from what i can see, a plug goes from cd player into the computer, then another plug goes out of the computer into the head unit....

I know it's possible to make a custom cable! It has to be! anyone made one? It's a Phillips which is a rebaged fujitsu BTW.... if any electronics experts are in melbourne wanna give me a hand i won't complain hahaha nah seriously ill pay u per hour if u can make me a cable..... and drive to ur place....

can you switch to aux input when that cable is not attached? If so, then just use pins (2,5) and (4,5) for the L,R channels and you should be set.

I have no idea what the other pins do. You might have to do something silly like cross 11,5 in order to enable aux-in?

when the plug isn't in i get NOTHING..... no radio, no power, nothing!

I think you have to jump certain pins but i dunno which!

as in if you plug it in the radio will not power on at all, but if you unplug it then the radio will power on?

my guess would be looking at pins 9 and 11... it looks like they need to be crossed to something to turn it on. pretty much all other pins are accounted for.

when i have the plug unplugged from the cd player..... the radio will not work at all (the cd player is a seperate unit)

i want to make the radio THINK the cd player is there..... but play the audio from my RCA leads....

u can switch from cd mode to radio by pressing a button so it'd be perfect

just as good as an aux in radio

do something similar to what I did. splice the line and add a 2-way 6-pin 2-pole switch, put pins 2 and 4 from the head unit side of the cable into the center of the switch, the same pins from the CD player side into either left or right set, and then add in your own aux-in for the last set of pins. This way when the switch is pressed in you can get one set of inputs, when the switch is out you can get the other set of inputs.

Do you get what I mean? IF you don't want to hack up your cable, see if you can find an extension cable or a male and female end and make your own extension cable.

i found more info on an MX3 site (i have an MX6 i didn't know they had the same radio!)

Your method sounds like it's still reliant on the cd player to work? i want it to work without the cd player plugged in.... basically so it *thinks* the computer is the cd player....... maybe i need to jump certain pins with certain resistance? i really don't know bcoz i know nothing about electronics cept the real basics........

well it depends, but most systems actually "talk" to the CD player (i.e. it's a digital connection, not just wires crossed)... so basically you need the CD player plugged in and running in order to use the aux-in.

I suppose (in theory) that you could do the same trick with either the tape or the radio, but those will most likely be harder because they'll be integrated directly onto the main PCB, thus making it harder to find.

hmmmmmm, maybe i'll just put the cd player hidden behind the dash with a burnt cd of 80mins silence? bcoz i presume without a cd in it wouldn't work..... seems like an unneeded strain on the cd but oh well actually should work if i left it paused..... ill plug it back up and do some tests
