Buy a stage3 carpc on the mainsite

    Hello,

I'm new here and I want a complete builded carpc.
My eye is fallen on this one,
I want to buy this carpc on the main site in the webshop

This complete Car PC System comes with a Jetway VIA C7 2.0GHz Mini-ITX Motherboard, M2-ATX automotive power supply, VoomPC-2 Enclosure, 1GB DDR2 (PC2-5300) Memory, 120GB SATA 2.5" Hard Drive and CD-RW/DVD Slim Combo Drive. This Car PC System comes pre-assembled and tested. All you need is to install your own Operating System, Car PC Software, and Touch Screen LCD.

    $622.42

I want to use the carpc for watching dvd,
playing radio, using some navigation, rearview camera,
and the most important to control and listen to my audio setup (compo / subwoofer / amp)

What do you think about the price above?
I'm comming from the Netherlands, so the shippings costs are another 100 dollar... but I think it's a nice complete system.

I'm also thinking to take the stage4 offer... So I have also the
Xenarc 705TSV 7" TFT LCD Touchscreen Monitor within it..
But the replys about this screen are not really good I readed on this forum..
It steems that the quality is not perfectly in 1024x768 ??..

    Please some reactions.
    Thanks!

Well I don't believe most of us run our screens at 1024X768.. When you're using a 7 inch screen, it doesn't seem to be noticable to the eye if you use even 800X. Some other questions you could answer...How much power are you going to be drawing>? Are you just going to run what we see above? Or are you going to have multiple USB devises etc...Some might argue that the PSU is insufficient. I have heard good things about the motherboard and processor. Hope some of this helped..

    Hmm thank you.
Well I want to listen to my radio on this carpc so I think I need a usb fm stick or something?

And I want bluetooth on this pc, so I also connect a bluetooth dongle on it.
And also I want to use navigation..

Do you think that the psu is insufficient with the thing I want to do?
And I want to buy a 8inch touchscreen but I can't find a nice one..
    Do you have an idea?

well I want to use this pc with 3 usb devices I think.

1/ I want to listen to the radio, so I think I must use a Fm usb stick or something?

2/ I want my pc to function as a carkit,
so a bluetooth dongle is also present then.

3/ I want to put mp3 songs from a usb stick to this computer.
So this is the third usb device.

4/ To control/ listen my amp, subwoofer and speakers

Do you think that the PSU is not strong enough for this tasks??

At last... my choise for a screen is changed to a 8 inch touchscreen.
It's hard to find a good one with positive reactions.
What do you think, what is good 8inch screen???

    Thanks!

Forget FM usb sticks. At least the two I've tried has been waste of time and money. Unless you find a stick that someone recommend I would not bother. I've got a HQCT now, it is quite expensive and I have had some problems with it. Never heard anything from it acctually. Radio is a lot harder than I expected to begin with, thats for sure.

I'm not sure how powerfull this ITX is. Some people say they have no performance problems even with the 1000 model.

All I know is that I am replacing my MII12000 for a dualcore since it just can't cope with DVD and digital TV (USB stick)

I think that my graphics card might not be that good, but even so; it takes 19 minutes to rip a CD from my USB DVD (same as yours) when the system does not do anything else!!

So I've spent some money invane.

IMHO I would take a deeper grip down the wallet as an insureance if nothing else.

    Best of luck, B-O

Before spending a bunch of money, why don't you look at what other people are doing with their carpcs and see if they are happy with the performance?

The M2 is more than powerful enough for that set-up. If it weren't we wouldn't have made the kit.

If your using it for MP3, and what not, I recommend this board. If you want to be able to run movies, and what not, i wouldnt trust VIA. From my own experience I had a VIA board and it was terrible. I am now buying a MSI Fuzzy with a T5500 processor. I also have a Opus 320, which is way more then enough.

Also do not bother with the radio, i also tried getting mine to work, also attached the car's antenna to it, still sounds terriable. If you have the extra money to spend, get a Sprint Air Card and just use internet radio, you'll have a much larger selection to choose from. In Miami all the radio stations are cr@ppy anyways.

Chances are you didn't have a 2.0GHz VIA board...this is also a Jetway board with a VIA processor, not a VIA board with a VIA processor You had a M10000 - which is a 1GHz processor. This is apples to oranges. The M10000 is a VERY old motherboard and is known to not do so well for more advanced car PC applications.

These things have proven to be very reliable for us.

    Hi Red

    Clearification.

On my MII12000 I removed the PC card reader and replaced it with a PCi GeForce MX4000 64MB graphics card. I use powerstrip on it to get 480x800 which cannot be ashieved any other way, unless you are a computer wizard and can write your own Bios. I have no clue what that does to performance, but I think its not so good.

But have you an explanation to why it takes 19 minutes to rip a CD with 100% cpu load? If you are listening to music at the same time the CD will _never_ get done.

I'm not trying to harm anyone's business here, but does not the sole fact that VIA does not support 480x800 it less suitable for carputers? Even if it is 2GHz?

I guess maybe I have become kind of biassed towards VIA. I had horror with it, so have alot of other people. Same thing with Hyaundia.... they use to be cr@p and when they bought Kia, those were cr@p too, just with a diffrent name..... So even if it has Jetway on the name, the fact that it has VIA in there too, makes me stay clear away.
