I got my 679 today with a T7100. Looks very similar. It had a great quality sense to it.
Expectations are high, but I have not got the solid state disc yet. They are so d*mn expensive...

Cleaning up in my subscriptions :-) and found that I left this one hangin in the air.
I saw that you bought a smaller formfactor mobo eventually.
Are you still going SPDIF? What poweramp will you be using with the SPDIF? Or will you use a SPDIF-RCA converter? (if there is such a thing)
I will keep the Toslink all the way to the trunk and connect to the Zapco processor. It is controllable via PC and USB cable and is very nice. It accepts multiple digital inputs and outputs balanced stereo to the amps.
