As long as the cards support EPP (I think that it's EPP) there should be no problem.

I want to use my extra lcd in the house to show winamp info while I am working. The problem is that my machine is the print server for the home network so the parallel port is being used. What is the best solution: 1. get a new parallel i/o card with two ports or 2. get one of those ethernet adapters that serves as the print server. I have several old i/o cards out of the 486's we had over the years. Could I just pop one of those in and use it for the lcd. Will it be fast enough for the lcd? thanks, Jason

One of those old cards should be fine. Just make sure to disable the other interfaces on it so that you don't get conflicts, and be sure to tell it to be LPT2.
Well, I found four I/O cards. Two of them were VLB so that left two. One I could not disable the IDE interface on and the other one locks the system up even though I have it jumpered correctly. I guess I need some reccomendations brand wise. Anybody using one of the Parallel PCI boards from SIIG?
I have a ISA LPT port card made by Lava.. it works great in every system I have used it in so far.. might be worth looking into.. it only cost me $17CDN...

its not hard at all
Once I did just that. Used an old multi I/O board froma a 486 to add 1 parallel port to a new mobo. Using the I/O card to be the LPT2: just put the machine to dream. What I found to be usable, was to use the old card as LPT1: and the mobo port as LPT2: and that did the trick. BTW the second port was used to connect an old laptop via laplink, so EPP should work fine. Hope it helps.
