jmc1414, what kind of heatsink/fan combo are you using and are you happy with it ? Also what kind of case did you end up using or did you fab your own ?

    Cheers,

Oh wow, thats going to be hard, my case is so limited in space......... but it already has alot of fans, so Im hoping they will be enough.

I ordered the one made by IEI. They say you can use a pentium M cpu fan, but when i received mine, it did not fit, so I decided to get the one made for the MoBo. Also another thing I hate about the 690S1, is that the USB connectors are switched.....

    Code:
    PIN 1: +5V PIN 5: Ground
    PIN 2: USBP4N PIN 6: USBP5P
    PIN 3: USBP4P PIN 7: USBP5N
    PIN 4: Ground PIN 8: +5V
So if you have the plug with double rows, you have to redo one side to match the pin layout.

Is the pentium M one that didn't fit, the one you got off eBay ? And where did you get the IEI one from ?
The one that looked interesting to me, but likely won't fit based off your experience is the SilverStone NT07-Pro. It is very quiet at a supposed 18.5dBA.

Yes, off of Ebay, Im starting to hate ordering PC things from there. The site I ordered from seems to have every piece for the KINO-690S1, if you type the IEI product numbers in their search, it brings all the items up.... or at least the ones I was looking for. Here is the link to the fan http://www.orbitmicro.com/global/hig...hs-p-2183.html. It also seems to be a socket479, I just guess I was unlucky with Ebay.

    HiJackZX1,
Have you by any chance been able to run that Matrox compatibility tool?
I know things got delayed because of the heatsink mismatch, but I wanted to check just in case.
I will keep your eBay cautioning in mind when it comes time for us to order parts. Are you otherwise happy with Orbitmicro? Their price on the 690S1 is $40 less than at LogicSupply. I have done business with LogicSupply before but this first build is going to be a prototype and $40 will cover a heatsink and several other needed parts!

    Cheers,

LOL, i wish it was only that delay, I had a tonnnnnnnnnnnnnn of others. IDE wouldnt fit, so I had to buy sata adapters, waiting on those. Also the 3.5 to 2.5 has'nt arrived yet either. Without those 2 things, I cant even install the HDD or the DVD ROM. All the people I bought the things from, decided to send it USPS and we all know they arent very fast. It seems some unkown force is being a biatch, when it comes to my car and install.

I used a pentium M heatsink/fan i got cheap from newegg... i forget exactly but ill look later for the model. I had no problem with the fit but im not sure i would trust ebay without checking model numbers... again i forget exactly which case i went with but i will check that too... its mini-itx case with 1 pci slot and i had to do a LOT of fab on it... i basically just used the motherboard standoffs and then gutted the rest of the case and put stuff where i wanted it using my trusty dremmel and some epoxy. also cut new fan holes. i can post pics if anyone wants

I am sorry to hear that. I have also called IEI to see if they could run that app, but I have a feeling the friendly anonymous folks here like yourself will pull through first
I am glad for all the information your putting in this thread about this board, it will be very benificial to anyone else who is considering using it. I can imagine the USB tidbit from yesterday will prove very valuable and save a lot of time for the next person who comes along.

If you happen to come across model numbers and or photos I would appreciate it. I am glad that there are other people out there with this board. As long as it can pass the tests from that Matrox program it will be the board which we will be getting! Having all the extra information and experience from you guys on it will help make some of the other decisions surrounding it (case & fab work, heatsink, general cooling, etc...). I am tossing around the idea of going with an extremely low wattage processor (AMD Sempron 2100+ TDP 9W) but am trying to find more information about it first. Otherwise I will go the system pull route like you guys most likely.

    Cheers,
