Advice Please - PC Design Problem

    Hi Guys,
I am designing an in car PC and plan to use a voom pc 2 enclosure which i'll mount in the boot of my Corsa C. I am hoping to have a touch screen LCD display that takes up a double din space. the only problem I have is that I might want to listen to CDs from time to time, and with my double din space taken up by my tft and the pc in the boot, i'd have to get out of the car and open the boot to be able to play a CD. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get around this?

I thought about mounting a USB CD drive in the glove box? I don't want to have to use a single din motorized screen as I don't really like them!

The other option is to mount the PC itself in the glove box.. but A) that takes up my whole glove box space (if it'll even fit!) and B) i'll end up having ventilation issues

Hope you can help! thanks in advance!

    Pete

    Couple of suggestions.

    1. Use a headunit.
    2. USB rom in the glovebox.
    3. Rip your CD's to your CarPC (?)
    4. Fabricate USB rom into dash above or under double din
    5. look at the show off your ride section for ideas from what others have done

I had a double din... my cd drive is below the double din where I had a cubby. I am still working on filing down a faceplate for that bottom section.

Yep, what he said about ripping cd's to hard drive.

I got a 360gb HD just because I planned on LOTS of music, maybe a lot of video, too.

My needs are simple, so I just ripped my cd's using Windows Media Player, as .wav files (the best quality avail using WMP). The result is LOTS of music available using carpc as source, and lots more room for more music. And the quality is reeeally nice!

I would advise you say goodbye to head unit, and go with amplifiers; 4x50 watts is reasonable power and ther's lots of affordable amplifiers. Just a suggestion. Maybe check my pictures to see what I'v done.

    CU soon.
    Happy CarPC'ing!

Don't get rid of the head unit unless you don't want radio. I started w/out a headunit, but the RadioShark sucked(even plugged into car antenna) so much I added an aftermarket headunit anyway. The RadioShark probably had bad placement between the screen and computer, but I didn't want to mess with it anymore. It had great reception in the house, though.

Another option is to put a slot-load slim cd/dvd drive into the sun visor. Someone else on this forum did that and there's pictures somewhere.. I just can't find them. The cd slides into the side of the visor(looks pretty good).

    cd drive

I would rip all my cd's to mp3, but i understand your need. Consider just mount an external slim sub cd or combo drive under the dash, in glove box, center console, etc etc?
