Old PC took a cr@p, how do I save the HDD?

I finally have all the pieces to my new PC, but I wanted to know, how would I install the hard drive without having to reinstall everything. Is that even possable? I have a 2.5 HDD USB enclosure, so I can easily pull all the info off the HDD and then put it back on, but I wanted to avoid the install time. Any suggestions?

Try booting in safe mode with the old HD in the new computer. Then uninstall the chipset drivers. Reboot and let windows find the new hardware. I have had 50% luck with this in the past.

sticking the hard drive in a new PC should be no problems. you will just be reinstalling new drivers

I think im going to do like stated above and boot into safe mode and uninstall the drivers. I really dont want to reinstall XP, Im worried that it will think I am trying to use the key multiple times and not let me get updates.

Just remember, you may have to re-activate XP because of all the new hardware anyway. It's a crap shoot honestly.

    Norton Ghost.

Plug in your usb enclosed 2.5 (the new drive I assume) and let 'er go.

It wipes the destination drive though, make sure your new one doesn't have anything on it you want to keep............

My bad, I wasnt specific. The HDD is perfectly fine, its the CPU that kicked the bucket. So I basically want to put my old HDD with its information into a new CPU, without having to reinstall windows and start off fresh.

If it's a ligit key for XP then no worries. If it prompts you to re-activate it then do it. You might have to call. I have done it in the past with no issues.
