    ECLIPSE AVN 5500 Navi-DVD unit

I hope you guys can help... I been looking ALL over for an answer...

I'll try to make this short. I burned an MP3 with about 150 songs or so. All MP3's are listed by Artist then name (as should be)

When I input the MP3 into this head unit. It displays 3 rows & 3 columns of songs. 9 songs total. each song is displayed on the screen in one of the 9 boxes with only the first 8 characters.

So for example... If i had songs such as....

Immortal Technique - Cause of death
Immortal Technique - the 4th branch
The Game - Then you passed away
    The Game - strip club

The songs on the screen would show up simply as "IMMORTAL" & THA GAME"
so if I have 10 songs of the game on the CD I see 9 squares of "THE GAME"
Being that when you switch between songs there's a few second delay. It sucks if you're trying to find a specific song.

I was wondering if there was a way to make it so maybe intead of displaying as 9 boxes maybe it could be displayed as a list straight down that would allow for all characters to be shown??? Point is I dont care how it looks on the screen as long as I can see the artist/song name or MOST of it to be able to distinguish what song it is. Please help if you can....

    Thanks in advanced.

    Diagram

Maybe this will help on what I'm trying to accomplish...

THis is the way the MP3 list looks, as you can see only 8 characters show up.... Sucks if you have multiple songs by same artist

Here is an example (photoshopped) of what I'm lookin for. If possible....
Even if it was 2 columns 3 rows but being able to show more than 8 characters per box would be cool....

hope this helps on what I'm trying to accomplish

You'd need to contact Eclipse and see if they'll modify the software for you.
    Good luck with that.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    1) if a radio is installed properly, it's pretty much impossible to steal it

    2) factory alarms are known to not be very protective. Get an aftermarket alarm and have someone who really knows what they are doing install it, not the cheapest guy you can find.

    3) Be careful where you park and who you show it off to. If you're bumpin when you pull into the parking lot, tryin to show off, then people will notice, and will notice that you have something that they want.

    properly?

How is it "Properly Installed" I dont know how to do it so i obviously did it at a audio shop. Is there somethign extra they do? Place a lock on it of some sort? How can it be "Unstealable" if they completely ripped it out of my dash board? twisted metal/broken plastic from harness, etc etc....

I live in condo complex in paramount, 2 streets over from Compton. Kinda a bad area to start off with. back to the condo. It's hard to find parking, let alone near your unit when you get home from work.

Second. I was thinking of getting one of those alarms that has a keychain that warns you when alarm has been triggered, do those work? What kind of alarm system do u recommend that would sound off and notify me if door has been opened or glass broken?

    BTW thanks for the feedback...

there are ways to secure the unit to the dash in such a manner that they would have to either know how it was installed and where all of the security install parts were or they would completely shred the dash trying to get it out.

Viper makes the types of alarms you're talking about.

but here's the thing....if it goes off, and you're warned, what are you going to do about it? Sit there and watch them? I sure wouldn't go up to them or anything...

if they are breaking into you vehicle, chances are they want something in it pretty bad...I wouldn't get in their way.

Also, if you live in a bad part of town, maybe you should reconsider having such expensive equipment in your car....

I will have to look into that more (about the installation).....

As for someone breaking in. In this case it would have been perfect because I know exactly how they even got in my car to begin with, they broke the quarter glass on the passenger rear. Slipped their arm through and unlucked the door. But thing is where I live, it's a bunch of condo units that overlook the street. So I know exactly what they did, walked by my car, smashed the quarter glass, and proceed walking off, probably returning a few minutes later (considering if someone heard glass break, they look out window and see nothing and that's that) So that would have gave me enough time to go out there and deter them. There have been burglaries here lately, not to mention my car is not the only car on the street with a good system. So if i went out there they wouldnt come back trying to jack me with me in it lol.

Thanks for your help much appreciated

If you live in ghetto, then get a unit with a detatchable face and dont blast the music out your window. If you attract attention, you will attract it from all sorts of people including theives.

Do they make DVD/NAVI with Detachable faces??? How effective is that if they can go to a sweepmeet like audio place and get a replacement?

You are absolutely right about blastin the stereo. That's why I never did. I would always turn the volume down low (even to where stock speakers play alot louder) and I would turn the bass all the way down... Ironic thing is MANY people here have good systems. No BS. Even parents blast music, clearly 40 years old + coming home from work bumping it. So that kinda baffled me for a few days wondering why mine.
