Thanks

Well I wired my ASTEC psu up and hooked it up to a 12v battery charger and a 12v fan just to see if it was doing anything. Well when I flipped the switch on the charger all that happened was a tiny puff of smoke came from something on the board. I have another one but I'm concerned that I'll fry that one too. I read that you can hook pin 20 to the ground to make it always on instead of connecting 19 and 20 together. For those of you that have it working is this what you are doing. I will get a better meter today and check the voltages but am pretty sure it is 12v input. Any help would be helpful.

OK I was a little gun shy about hooking up my second and last psu. I got a 12v power supply from work and hooked everything up. The 12v psu mad funny nosies so I shut it down. I looked at the specs one last time and found that red and black on the psu are not the standard red=+ and black=- I hooked it up the other way and had success. Glad that the 12v supply had some sort of protection on it so I didn't blow the second one up. Have one more question. I tried the hint about hooking up pin 20 to a ground and I can't get it to work. Sorry for long post.

i havent been in this post for a while cause i got mine to work ;-) it took a dam long time to solder everything, but its all good now, works great. this is definitely the best power source for an mp3car, and with good price. to wrangler, i remember the post about 20 to ground, and i think thats bs, just take it to 19. i personally just put a switch on mine, but if u short 19-20, that switches it on permanently.
To anyone who cant get the astec to power their computer well..... remember, keep the wires as short and thick as you can. the longer and thinner, the more resistence and loss of power, that may be why your not getting much juice out of it, cause by the time the power gets to your components, its weak.

Quick question/comment.
I noticed the psu unit manual says that Pin#1 is GND (ground), but others have posted that it is -5v.
Can someone clear up my confusion, before i fry something and make a big motherboard frisbee?
Thanks,

I have pin one hooked up to the -5v line going to the mobo with no problems. I believe that the specs from MECI are incorrect and that it is -5v.

On the AT pins I need 4 +5 volts inputs but the MPJA-MECI PS only gives out 3 of them... Can I split one of the 3 to make it 4 ??
Thanks

Serena: Maybe we have different models or somthing, but when i short 19 and 20 together it dosent turn it on unless they are connected _after_ the power is connected to the battery inputs. In my setup i have crossed pin 20 with pins 5 and 6 (2 of the ground wires) to achieve its always on condition... pictures of the wiring can be seen at
