    EPIA M for DiVX

I have a ton of DiVX encoded movies and notice that many of the highest quality encodings are unplayable on the EPIA 800 regardless of the quality settings for DiVX, Has anyone tried High Quality DiVX setting with the EPIA M? Were the results acceptable? I would like to know before I pull out the EPIA 800 and replace it.

    Thanks!

Check out their preview of the EPIA-M that was published a few months ago.

    Re: EPIA M for DiVX

hrm.... I have had no such trubbles....

I used the lowest quality DivX5 playback setting.... but really is still looks damm good!!... also I did find that 16-bit color setting on the video card (as apposed to 32bit) made quite a difference....

I find the low quality setting to really create a banding effect in low or high color/light areas. It is really annoying. I use the EPIA 800 for both the in car and home theater setups. The effect isn't there when I use a higher end computer for the home setup, but when I put the EPIA 800 back in, the movies look a great deal worse. I have the video set to 32bit color and I am using svideo direct to the tv. I wil probably order a EPIA M today to see if it works in the home theatre before I tear down the car setup. Anyone else have any suggestions about improving the DiVX display?

    Thanks!

Interesting, why did Win2k impact the EPIA 800. I am currently running Win2kPro on it (with many of the services turned off). Do you suggest backing off to win98lite?

    Thanks!

yeah forgot to mention that... I was running 98lite with it too.... done some testing before getting it into the car early next year..

W2K will have a higher overhead than win98/95 due to the greater number of background services/etc that exist.... also I think Pentium 3/4, Athlon/Duron processors may be optimized better for WIN2K/XP???

give 98lite a try, tell us how ya do....

I ordered the EPIA M anyway. I will use the EPIA 800 to experiment with before I change the car computer. Sounds like 98lite is where I will be headed for the car...

    Thanks!
