standard power supply, homemade (sproggy), commercial dc-dc converter?
give us a bit more detail on the type of PSU you are using...

Not sure where to put this thread. I started constructing a plexiglass case for my carputer. The current dimensions are 11"x19"x5". It is a little too big. In the box is a standard size motherboad with AMD 600, the hard drive and Power Supply. I am trying to slim down the overall size. The power supply seems to big the biggest obstacle to move. Anyone have any suggestions of PS location? I was thinking of taking apart the power supply to save room, but i dont want to electricute myself. any suggestions appreciated. thanks

What you might want to do is open the ps and pitch the case part and only install the actual ps.

I can't remember where it is anymore, you might google or search the hardforums.com cool case section for it, but someone did a howto on how to fit a standard atx power which would allow it to be shorter, but as far as width and depth foot print goes, the only way you're going to get it smaller is to buy a matx psu, as the pcb's are just smaller than the psu casing.
