Ok I either wanna find out if there is a way to go from IDE to USB or if someone out there makes a USB Slim Slot Load DVD drive. Because I need more length then what IDE allows.
Anyone know?

you could try firewire, or get a usb external harddrive kit, but for both of them youd need an ide harddrive to boot off of, and with firewire youll need to buy a card to add ports if you dont have them. Ive never heard of a ide->usb adapter, and im not really sure how possible they are.
Hey I did a search on google and I found some links for you to check out:

this product looks super cool because it has a battery built in, so you don't have to get external power to it. Plus when you aren't using it, it charges the battery from the power off the usb or firewire cable. If you don't want the external enclosure I'm sure you can do some modding :)
Those boards are like $99. I am going to try and put together an order from evertek (anyone want in?). The IDE to firewire kits are like $36 each. A much more palatable option for me at least.
Thanks Guys, ddt can u give me a link to that product. I wanna check it out.
check out ebay, theres always plenty usb->ide on there selling for about $30. They're usually under the hard drive section but there no reason they would work with atapi also
Firewire IDE bridgeboards are only 36 bucks? How would I get one of those?
edit: or was that an enclosure also?
How about these.

I havent contacted them about a price, but this seems to be exactly what I want.
:D
But would usb 1 or what ever the one before 2.0 work with a dvd rom drive?
